Montreal, Dec. 18. A man claiming to be Jack the Ripper was arrested here last night on a charge of assaulting a woman. He assaulted Florence Newcomb on the street last night and was arrested and taken to police headquarters. The prisoner said: "I am Jack the Ripper. I have just arrived." As he said this, he laughed uproariously. He afterward gave his name as John Langhorn, London, England, 25 years old. A murderous looking knife and a letter signed Jack the Ripper were found in his pocket. The police say the man is a crank.
