The Misses Moreau, who keep a military establishment on St Catherine street, received a letter a few days before the beginning of Lent, signed Jacques Leventrein (Jack the Ripper), containing a $1 bill said to be for keeping up shrovetide. Their surprise was increased some days ago when they received another letter, dated from St Hyacinthe, bearing the same signature and having the same enclosure informing them that he would make his appearance at their residence on the night of 29th of April. In alarm the distressed ladies communicated with the police. Sergeant Desjardines with a few men kept a close watch over the premises but the rascal, madman or joker, did not appear.
