Times (London)
27 April 1889

HAMBURG, April 26.

The suspicion that the man who effected the murder and mutilation of a boy aged nine years here on the 9th inst. had been detected in the person of a shoemaker named Benthien has proved true. He has been under arrest for eight days, awaiting the return from abroad of a schoolmaster named Clasen, who saw the murderer and his victim together. The recognition which took place to-day dispels a feeling of public insecurity only to be compared with that produced in London by the deeds of "Jack the Ripper."
