"WIDMA"
(Korespondencja wlasna Kuriera Codziennego)

Londyn, d. 23-go pazdziernika

Londyn jest obecnie strasznem i pelnem grozy miastem.

Wszystkie cechy charakterystyczne, przypisywane widmom i upiorom, wystapily na jaw w zdarzeniach ostatnich kilku tygodni... Dwanascie tysiecy uzbrojonych i wyuczonych konstablów, stoi bezradnych...

Wszystko daremnie... Dwadziescia jeden hypotez istnieje obecnie o sprawcy tych mordów, dwadziescia jeden przyczyn wiecej wprawiania w przestrach kazdej kobiety, mieszkajacej w zachodnich dzielnicach miasta.

Gaboriau, zaciekawiajacy i sprytny, liczy wielu wspólbraci i nasladowców w zjednoczonych trzech królestwach.

"PHANTOMS"
(Letter to the Kurier Codzienny)

London, 23th October

London today is a horrible city, full of terror.

The events of the last few weeks are more characteristic of phantoms and vampires than of human beings... Twelve thousand armed and educated constables are helpless...

The phantom, vampire or ghost comes and disappears, not seen and not heard by anybody, except his victim, to whom he was coming...

Everyone - the police and the terror-stricken community, simpletons and scholars - try to solve this terrible riddle. All in vain... Now we have twenty-one hypotheses about the perpetrator of these murders, twenty-one sources of fear for each woman who lives in the western area of the city.

One of these hypotheses is worthy of mention owing to its originality and probability. There are outstanding and experienced people who say that the perpetrator of these bloody murders is mad, and the cause of his madness is the "thriller literature" which has been very popular in England for many years - crime stories and plays. Gaboriau, fascinating and clever, has many imitators in the United Kingdom.
