THE NEW COMMISSIONER OF POLICE. - The Press Association says: "It is reported at Scotland-yard that Mr. Monro has been appointed Commissioner of Police in the stead of Sir Charles Warren."
SOUTHWARK. - THE "JACK THE RIPPER" NUISANCE. - William Alfred Field, 60, gardener, was charged with being drunk and disorderly. Between one and two o'clock on Saturday morning he scared some women in the Westminster Bridge-road, by chasing them, shouting "I'm Jack the Ripper." - Mr. Sheil expressed his determination to put a stop to disturbances of this character, and sentenced him to fourteen days' hard labour.
