Fountain (or Fontin) Smith, who identified his sister Annie's body in 1888 and appeared at her inquest, was living with his wife and four children in Fulham during the 1901 census. Their third child George Smith was born in the United States, which means he might have taken his family over there to escape any chance of the press catching up with him again after the death of his sister?

A new website showing Annie's photograph with her husband John, and also their childrens, has now been set up with the full assistance of my brother Mark Shelden. The address is: http://www.geocities.com/chapman1888/ I have added a link back to the casebook!

Thanks Guy, To all, I hope the photographs on everyone's computers look good. My computer is old and they don't look as good as on my brother's better machine!

Haven't had a chance to look at them on my Mac yet, but they look pretty decent even on the cruddy old P100 (256 colour display) in the office here, especially considering their age. I noticed too that the picture of Annie was prominently displayed in the Trial of Jack the Ripper studio. (But then you'd already told us that, hadn't you...) Cheers Guy

Hi, Neal: I just wanted to tell you how exciting it is to see your website and to see the photograph of Annie Chapman and her husband and also the photographs of their children. This is a wonderful breakthrough in terms of putting a "face" to the victims while they were living and I think you have done a wonderful thing in publishing your book and now starting this website. Personally I can see the close resemblance between the image of the living Annie Chapman and the well-known mortuary photograph of her, and also the family resemblance of the children to their mother and father. This is spectacularly moving! Incidentally, one tiny little item, you list the publication date of your book: "ANNIE CHAPMAN, JACK THE RIPPER VICTIM 2001" Might this be misread by somebody as meaning a Jack the Ripper victim of 2001? Just something to take into consideration if you mean to revise the page at any point. Not sure how I would word it differently but it is possibly something for you to think about. Best regards Chris George

Thanks Guy, it was good to see Annie looking down on all the speakers on The Trial of Jack the Ripper programme. Thankfully, the family and myself got a credit at the end. For anyone interested they have a website for the programme where you can vote: http://www.discoveryeurope2.com/jack/ Hi Chris, thanks for your kind words about the site, and i've made a change to the wording by placing 'published' before the years mentioned. It was exciting to find the picture of Annie and the two children, and i'm hoping to do the same for Eddowes or Nichols. Fingers crossed! For anyone living in the London area the three photographs can now be seen in the East London Advertiser from today (21st Feb) to next Wednesday, with an article about the research. All the best. Neal

Neal, My last post probably came over as fairly cynical. It wasn't mean't to be........honest. If you can pull off Nichols, Eddowes, whoever then I think that it would be a momentous feat. Impressed Monty
