Casebook Message Boards: Ripper Media: Specific Titles: Non-Fiction: Ripper Legacy: The Life and Death of Jack the Ripper, The (Howells & Skinner)
Author: Andrew Lorne Morrison Thursday, 19 November 1998 - 01:09 am | |
This book covers the murders quickly but authoritatively and then goes on to tell of the two writers' attempts to track down JTR and all their successes and disappointments. One of the former is probably the most complete explanation there is ever likely to be about the mythical "East End Murderer - I Knew Him" document. The book also produces some new facts about Montague J Druitt, provides a lot of information about James Monro who up until that time had been rather neglected by other writers and demolishes the Sickert/Knight theory. It is well written and, as one would expect of a book in which Keith Skinner is involved, the research is excellent. The main theory is put forward enthusiastically but not in such a way that it detracts from the rest of the book if you don't accept it. This was the first book about JTR that I bought and I have read it many times since. Highly recommended (8 out of 10).

I am reading this book at present, which is onloan from one of the authors. How likely is it that another copy could be found to purchase?
