Christopher T George,
Many thanks for your link to the Atkinson Grimshaw site. He has been a favorite of mine since "I were Nowt but a lad". I have a copy of his picture of the Prince's Dock, Hull which is similar in composition to his picture of the Liverpool Docks, but to my mind with even more atmosphere.
Happily the orignal of the Princes Dock Picture hangs in my local art gallery. A joy for life.

Best Regards,
John Savage

Hi, John:

I'm glad the Atkinson Grimshaw link was meaningful to you. It's surprising what's on the net these days.

Best regards

A fairly obscure site and unfortunately only in Spanish!! But contains one interesting snippet.

The opening of the article says:

El nombre de Quatour Coronati es famoso en los medios masónicos por llevar ese nombre la primera y más importante Logia de Investigación del mundo, la No. 2076 de Inglaterra, fundada en 1886 y cuyo primer Venerable fue Sir Charles Warren

Roughly translated (forgive my spanish!)
The name of the Quattuor Coronati is famous in masonic matters as this was the name born by the first and most important "Investigation" lodge in the world, number 2076 of England, founded in 1886 whose first leader? was Sir Charles Warren."

The article ends with a quote from the Manuscrito Regio dating from 1390 on which the Four Crowned Martyrs took its form.

Tras relatar la leyenda, dice: "Su fiesta se festeja ocho días después de la de Todos los Santos..."

After relating the legend, it says "Their feast (The Four Martyrs) is celebrated eight days after that of All Saints."

That is, eight days after Halloween
November 8th!
Ring any bells as a significant date??

Hope this is of interest
Chris Scott

PS If anyone wants a translation of the whole article let me know and Ill see what I can do!!

http://www.takver.com/history/chummy.htm

A biography of John "Chummy" Fleming.
He gave an address abou the Whitechapel murders the month after the Kelly murders. This was in melbourne, Australia

"One of the most surprising pieces of evidence for Fleming having a wider view and, most importantly, a recognition of the part played by individuals in mass reform, is his concentration in MAC (Melbourne Anarchist Club) debates on women's rights and the need for sexual freedom. Not a great paper giver, he is first recorded leading a debate in September, 1886 and in October he spoke for 'Free Love'.13 The debate had been adjourned from the previous week so that 'ladies' could participate in what had proved to be a 'stimulating discussion'. On the Sunday preceding 27 February, 1887 he spoke on 'The Subjection of Women', and continuing his interest, on 'Marriage, Prostitution and the Whitechapel Murders' on 15 December, 1888"

I'd be very interested to know if anyone has any info on the content of this address

Peter Kropotkin 1842-1921

Short Biography
http://www.spartacus.schoolnet.co.uk/USAkropotkin.htm

An influential Russian revolutionary who mentioned JTR by name in one famous speech entitled Anarchism : Its Philosophy and Ideal

The passge in question is:

"Besides, has not experience demonstrated quite recently that Jack the Ripper performed his exploits under the eye of London police - a most active force - and that he only left off killing when the population of Whitechapel itself began to give chase to him?"

Chris,

Regarding your link about Chummy Fleming, a colleague of mine runs the site. I discussed the talk you mention with him - here is an extract from
his reply; "In terms of Chummy Fleming and the posting on Casebook.org, I believe only the titles of the talks have been preserved. When Chummy died in the early 1950s the police came and took away boxes of papers, which have never been located since. A lot of historical material was probably lost in that event. But Chummy Fleming was certainly one of the colourful characters of Melbourne for many decades." Unfortunately, documents disappearing seems to be a regular feature of this sort of research.

Thanks again for the excellent links.
