Frenchy On Trial
New York, July 2.
In the trial of Ameer Ben Ali, alias Frenchy, supposed to be Jack the Ripper, today the accused was put on the stand. He gave his testimony through an interpreter. When asked if guilty he replied with tears "by the garment of Allah, I am innocent." After repeated protestations of innocence, he pleaded "spare my life, gentlemen." Being shown the bloody knife found on him when arrested, he again became excited and explained that he never saw it before. The case goes to the jury tomorrow.
