Jack, O Estripador - 1889

The Ripperological Preservation Society unearthed Jack, O Estripador: Grande Romance de Actualidade, Illustrado com Gravuras at the Biblioteca Nacional de Lisboa, Portugal, in 2001. It was not previously listed in any Ripper bibliography. Jack, O Estripador is a fictional work, published only a year after the Ripper murders in 1889. Incredibly, the book is spread over five volumes, each of approximately 385-390 pages. The piece in its entirety is just under 2,000 pages long, making it, by far, the longest Ripper fiction ever published.

We are making the complete text of this mammoth book available online in the hopes that someone fluent in Portuguese would be able to read it and provide us with a general overview of the plot and characters. Please send comments and inquiries to spryder@casebook.org.

We would like to thank Antonio Monteiro and the staff of the Biblioteca Nacional de Lisboa for their help in acquiring copies of this work.
