Casebook Message Boards: Read This First! : Harassment Policy
Harassment Policy
If you feel that you are being harassed by a poster, send an e-mail to JtRCasebook@aol.com listing specific incidents that you feel illustrate the harassment. Be sure to include Topic: Thread: Date and of course the name of the poster that you believe is behaving in a harassing manner. These posts will be reviewed in as thorough a manner as possible (I will also search for other posts, but you are required to supply the initial basis for complaint.) If the harassing is occuring through e-mail, copies of the e-mails need to be sent.
I want to emphasize that Personal Responsibility is a must. While we want to encourage new posters and give them a grace period to adjust to our particular brand of madness, we do not plan to protect people who should know better. If you have been posting for more than 2 months, you should know by now that you are not god, your theory ISN’T the right one, and people are going to argue with you. It is up to you to provide the proof of your theory and you still aren’t going to convince anyone.
For brand new posters I will once again state: Posts that reflect mature and well formulated sentences are received better than those that are immature and careless. Ignorance about the JtR case is acceptable up to a point, however ignorance about proper procedure here will make for a chilly reception. Act like an immature brat and you will probably get treated like one. That isn't harassment. So what is?
When you should not waste my time:
1. If you get into an argument that you can’t win, don’t cry harassment. Your behavior will be looked at as well. If you have been actively baiting/engaging someone, this is an argument not harassment. The Casebook doesn’t involve itself in arguments. (Other than our own voyeuristic enjoyment.)
2. People have the right to ask for proof anytime you use a declarative statement about something the majority of people would consider to be debatable. Annie Chapman was killed by Jack the Ripper does not require proof. Annie Chapman was tortured for an hour before she was killed does require proof. People will continue to ask you for proof as long as you keep posting declarative statements. You can’t avoid answering someone’s questions on debatable material and then cry harassment if they continue to ask for proof.
When you should waste my time:
1. A person is posting irrelevant, nasty comments after the majority of the posts you make.
2. You are ignoring someone to the best of your ability, posting on-topic and with relevance and they continue to belittle your ideas (which you freely express as ideas/opinions/hypothesis).
3. People who are just being over the top obnoxious.
4. You got into an argument with someone, you have now dropped it, but they continue to bring it up at every opportunity even though you are no longer discussing it. (This must be an ongoing situation, once or twice is not enough.)
5. You are being insulted by "anonymous" posters. Thise refers to someone you believe is a regular poster who has taken on a new identity to harass you.
6. A person contines to send you email after you have sent an email saying that you do not wish to ccorrespond further.
If you feel you have a case for harassment, please send an email to JtRCasebook@casebook.org
