It has been said in this 'Casebook', by others, that if Jack got away with it, why would he need to make it look as though someone else was guilty?
At the time, Jack was good at 'smoothing his tracks, behind him', he could have wanted to make sure no one ever discovered his true identity!
Or perhaps he just wrote it for "Jolly wouldn't you"!!!!
