Casebook Message Boards: The Diary of Jack the Ripper: General Discussion: Articles by Melvin Harris: BLUFF INCARNATE
Author: Melvin Harris Wednesday, 04 October 2000 - 06:26 pm | |
Paul Feldman has been at it again. Sadly he never seems to learn from his errors. In 'Ripperologist' 29 he makes a series of daft claims about me and displays his scholarship by flourishing an illustration of "The Dear Boss letter", and a photograph of "James Maybrick", both items meant to prove some of his points. Alas, and perhaps typically, the letter is NOT the famous 'Dear Boss' item but a later hoax of October 5th. And the Maybrick photo is NOT one of James but shows his brother, Michael. But the photo fitted in with the fiddled evidence that Feldman wished to present, and caution vanished! But the funniest part of his piece is at the end where he says: "Only last week I answered by email a point put to me about the diary. The response came back 'Thank you for that, I think I was beginning to fall victim to the smoke screen Mr Harris is putting up.'" Note the triumphant wording of that piece. Feldman's logic and grasp of history has conquered. But conquered what? With great cunning he fails to tell us just what the query was and just what answer he gave. I now invite the person who sent that email to display his question and Feldman's answer on this board. If he thinks I am deceiving him let him, or her, have the courage to say so. If he is not prepared to do this then how on earth can he know if Feldman's reply is accurate or not? Let me make a forecast. If the answer he got was in conflict with anything I have written then he has been duped. The person in question can post his information under an alias if he wishes. If he thinks he has been enlightened by Feldman then he should be eager to display the superior knowledge he imagines he has gained. We await his proof!
