Hi, all:

This Gothic story with a doppelgänger twist appeared in Scribner's Magazine, Volume 14, Issue 4, October 1893, pp. 465-475.

You can read an e-text by following the link

Carleton Barker

Barker is caught red-handed committing a Ripper-like murder in the Seven Dials neighborhood of London. He is sentenced to hang but amazingly survives because he has a double who goes to his death in his place.

Chris
