This fictional, illustrated five-volume work was originally published in 1889, and spans an incredible two thousand pages in length. It is written entirely in Portuguese. It seems to rely heavily on the real facts of the Ripper murders, and to our knowledge has not appeared in any previous Ripper bibliography.

Thanks to Antonio Monteiro and the staff of the Biblioteca Nacional de Lisboa, the Casebook has acquired a full run of copies of this mammoth work. Since its not doing much good to anyone just sitting on my shelves, I'm now putting all two thousand pages online, in the hopes that a reader fluent in Portuguese could provide a brief summation of the plot and major events.

As of right now I have only the first of five volumes available at: http://casebook.org/ripper_media/rps.middleton.html

The remaining volumes will be added over time.

Please contact me at spryder@casebook.org if you are interested in reading and summarizing this book. Thank you!

Hi Stephen,

Since I haven't yet kept my promise to translate 'El Destripador' for you, I don't offer to do anything with 'O Estripador'. But I will do the translation as soon as I settle down in Spain, starting at the beginning of November, and maybe afterwards I will look at this other work too .

All the best,
Eduardo
