I got my copies of Ripperologist and Ripper Notes, and I am estatic with both. What a wonderful age we live in, where we can share hobbies with others around the world
with so much ease.
Ok, here's my question, while checking out my copy of Ripperologist, I noticed an ad that featured two copies of The Illustated Police Weekly. One of course is centered on Liz Stride and I've seen it reproduced many times. But the other one...it appears to be one on Mary Jane Kelly. Its small and hard to recognize but certainly one of the pictures is of Miller's Court. I am fascinated because I have never seen this one before! Does anyone know where I might be able to read this one and look at the pictures?
I'm pretty sure I remember seeing one of these illustrated for Polly Nichols too. Does anyone know if these were done for Annie Chapman and Catherine Eddowes also?

Hi Brenda -

The IPN papers were reprinted in a small run in the 1970s. There are five featuring Ripper victims on the covers, and all the canonicals are represented. They're handsome pieces and very collectible.

I have a hi-res scan that I can email you if you like. Its a large file (approx. 830kb), let me know if you are interested.

By the by, the Casebook has a set of these five newspapers available for purchase as a sort of fund-raiser for the site. Any interested parties are welcome to make an offer.

I am interested in subscribing to "Ripperologist," however I am quite thrown by the instructions for American subscribers given at their web site. I cannot for the life of me figure out what I am to do to subscribe. If there is a kind American who has gone through this who can help me, I would be very grateful.

Coral Kelly told me to send cash for either a single issue or a subscription. This has worked for me thus far.

Hi Stephen,
I'd love for you to email one, that would be great. I might order them from the Casebook too.
I am glad to find out they were done for all the canonicals. What a neat way to preserve history.

David,

Contact Coral Kelly at coralkelly52@hotmail.com. She'll be delighted to advise you on how to subscribe to the Ripperologist. The best way, of course, is to send cash. It works.

Best,
Eduardo

Can someone send me the link to the Ripperologist site so I can check out the subscription info? This sounds like "the" ripper magazine to get. Thanks. :)

Hi Esther

The site is usually to be found at www.ripperologist.net, but it's currently down for maintenance.

Information on back issues, including sample articles, can be found on the Casebook site (http://www.casebook.org/ripper_media/book_reviews/periodicals/ripperologist.html), although please note that the 'Subscribe Now' link is broken.

Please email the Subscriptions Manager, Coral Kelly, at coralkelly52@hotmail.com for info.

Regards

Adam

Quite a few. The mag needs subscribers - and their money.

That's as maybe, but it's not an excuse for covering the boards in repetitive spam, nor is it likely to win converts to your magazine. People get fed up with this continual plugging and it just puts their backs up.

Dear Viper,

It’s not an excuse, it’s not repetitive spam (is there any other kind?) and it’s definitely not my magazine – or my club, for that matter. As you might know, neither the editorial staff of the magazine and its contributors, nor the Club officers and guest speakers, are compensated in any way for their time and effort. Any additional income resulting from increased membership would be poured back into the magazine, the club and the UK conferences, with obvious benefits for everybody interested in the Whitechapel murders.

What I have done, at my own initiative and under my own name, is to use message boards devoted to all matters relating to the Ripper case to plug a Club and a magazine catering to the same interests. To that end, I have posted less than ten messages in four existing threads, of which three are named after the magazine or the Club, to publicize the holding of a Club meeting and the publishing of a magazine issue within the next few days. No one is obliged to read the messages, let alone join the club or buy the magazine, any more than they are obliged to drink Coca-Cola, eat at McDonald’s or drive Toyotas. Maybe one day people will get fed up with these messages. Yet so far no one has voiced disapproval but you.

As a rule I seek to steer clear of personal disputes in these boards. This is therefore my last posting on this particular issue.

With best wishes,
E.
