Everyone, Some additions and deletions have been made to the script of the JTR film currently being shot. The importance of this movie cannot be over emphasised, it is the ONLY, I repeat, ONLY, Jack the Ripper film ever made using the exact locations. A&S

I love this thread!! And all the cast suggestions that you all have made. I have a few actors/actresses in mind but no specific part to associate with them... Anthony Hopkins, Angelina Jolie, Oded Fehr, William Peterson, Brian Cox, Christopher Walken, and for the older choices if we could have them....Charles Laughton, Elsa Lanchester, Boris Karloff.....I'll stop now. ) Whatever happened to the movie that was suppossed to be made about the Diary of Jack The Ripper which was suppossed to have starred Anthony Hopkins??

The current movie in production is being made with the true Ripperologist in mind. The final part of the script has been written. The actual filming is 60% completed. More news when it comes in. A&s

Andy & Sue, Are you still looking for extras for the movie ? I have been called a "Victorian Dad" so often, by various offspring, I feel that, in some way, I must resemble one. Also is it true, your giving a walk on part to your old mate Tim Lovejoy ? "Don't worry, it's only JtR !!"

Mr.Jenkinson.......and here we had saved you a part in OUR epic !! That of Sir Jim,the non-Ripper.

The stars of the epic currently in production are the people themselves. Do you live in London Sir Jim J? A.

Hi Andy I agree - the 'actor' who portrays Indian Harry deserves an Oscar, if only for getting into character after so many pints of bitter... Adam

Author: Andy & Sue Parlour Tuesday, 24 September 2002 - 02:53 pm
Adam, Yes I could'nt agree more. Omar Sharif would not have been any better in the part of Indian Harry. And while we are talking about the film that is currently in production, Sue and I were luckily asked to co-operate in the making and helping with the script. We could'nt help but notice the proffesional attitude shown by the whole crew who are so keen to stick to the facts as closely as possible, especially the leading cameraman whose use of angles are a treat to see. The cast are a bunch of dedicated actors and actresses who are only to willing to follow the directors instructions to order. We feel priviledged to be involved. We are reliably informed shooting is due to finish the second week in October. A&S

Hi Andy, The new film wouldn't have anything to do with the filming that's been going on down in Clerkenwell recently (by the Greater London Archives building)? There were many vans there belonging to film crews and a bus for the extras when I went there last week, and they there again today. Probably a long shot as there's always filming going on somewhere in London. All the best. Neal

Hello Neal, No, the Ripper film is just centred in the actual locations. As I have posted before it is the only film of the murders to be done so. All I know is that the makers have gone back to the old method of filming. Which in this day and age is encouraging to see, and very welcome. Andy.

Hi all, Rosellini, Visconti, Kurosawa, Lean, Ford, Lang, Leone, Renoir, Eisenstein, Bergman, Tarantino, Kubrick, Spielberg, Bergman...eat your heart out! (Which is a proper address in the context of the newest Ripper film...or should it be a kidney?) Best, Eduardo

I've always wanted to see John Cusack play JtR. He's got those sad puppy dog eyes, and a great slackjawed expression that would make for a visually interesting JtR. It's easy to find an actor that screams evil, but Cusack makes a good "everyman" which is what the part really calls for IMO. Regards, John Hacker

John: I think Cusack would make a good Barnett, actually. Regards Timsta

Author: John Hacker Thursday, 26 September 2002 - 11:09 am
Timsta, Hmmm... I've always pictured Barnett as nervous/excitable and that's not really what I think of why I see Cusack. Also, Barnett was supposed to be fussy about his appearance, which doesn't really scream Cusack at me. But then again anything that gets Cusack work is a good thing :-) Regards, John Hacker

Hello All, While watching the filming over the last couple of months I have been most impressed by the way the actors and actresses have played their parts. The relaxed casual air created by them during their scenes gives the film a feel of complete originalty, as if innocent bystanders are actually taking part. What it must have been like in 1888. But they are integral to the plot. A&S

Dear All, What is needed here is a totally original approach. It's not enough to remake "The Lodger" with Brad Pitt instead of Ivor Novello. One option is to go for a classic package deal: John Ford's Production of "The Guns of Whitechapel", for instance. Synopsis: An unknown killer is doing in the saloon girls of Whitechapel, a frontier town. Joe 'Ringo' Barnett investigates the crimes with the help of Sheriff Fred Abberline and his deputy, Moses Godley, but is impeded by rancher Chas Warren, a member of the Santa Fe-Mason ring. Cast: John Wayne (Joe 'Ringo' Barnett); Maureen O'Hara (Mary 'Cuddles' Kelly); Henry Fonda (Chas Warren); Ward Bond (Sheriff Fred Abberline); Andy Devine (Godley); Linda Darnell (Annie 'Chihuahua' Chapman); Claire Trevor (Polly 'Dallas' Nichols); Joanne Dru (Kate 'Denver' Eddowes); Vera Miles (Liz 'Stockholm' Stride); Victor McLaglen (Lusk); John Carradine (Coroner Wynn Baxter); Thomas Mitchell (Dr Bond); Hank Worden (Aaron Kosminsky); Lee Marvin (Leather Apron); Barry Fitzgerald (Sir William Gull); Chief Iron Eyes Cody (Thomas 'Indian Harry' Bowyer); Harry Carey Jr (The Elephant Man); Pat Wayne (Netley). The other option is the neorrealistic, urban vision of the authors of the latest Ripper epic, filmed on location at no expense spared. Cheers, E.

Hello Everybody, What about a young Peter Lorre, as Jack, being chased through London by cynical Humphrey Bogart's Abberline. Thanking you. Jim Leen

Author: Eduardo Zinna Friday, 27 September 2002 - 03:24 pm
Jim, With Sydney Greenstreet as Sir William Gull, Mary Astor as Mary Jean Kelly and Elisha Cook as Joe Barnett. Either that, or a fresh vision rooted on the real East End perspective, as promised in these boards. E.

Eduardo, There is a rumour that you might not be able to be at next Saturday's Smoke and Stagger club meet. Please confirm that it is only a rumour. A&S.

Author: Eduardo Zinna Saturday, 28 September 2002 - 12:15 pm
Andy & Sue, Unfortunately, it is not a rumour - I shan't be able to attend - first time I miss a meeting in a long time! I have a house guest who because of technicalities has been unable to secure a UK visa. I am also leaving Switzerland for Spain towards th end of October - but that will not prevent me from being at the C&DC Christmas party. Cheers, Eduardo

Hello Eduardo and guest, Have a good week-end anyway. Will keep you up-dated on filming. The filming went very well yesterday(Friday), and a good deal was achieved. Andy & Sue.

One of the cast members has had their hair cut - will we have a problem with re-filming & continuity?
| |
Author: Andy & Sue Parlour Sunday, 29 September 2002 - 09:20 am
Hello Coral, No problem with the continuity. I have seen the make up and props department of the film company that are making the movie. For a production company like them, nothing is a problem, the make-up girls are truly magic, and have a vast selection of wigs. A&S.

Hello All, Once again, two options. One is the Michael Curtiz's production of 'Whitechapel' SYNOPSIS: Refugees from all over the world congregate at Whitechapel, where they expect to obtain visas for America. A favourite haunt of these refugees is the Britannia, owned by American Richard 'Ringer' Blaine. A series of mysterious murders of bar hostesses attract the attention of Police Commissioner Major Karl Warner and Inspector Abberline. The situation worsens when Ringer's old flame, Liz Stride, shows up at his caff, now married to political activist Morris Eagle. Starring Humphrey Bogart (Ringer); Ingrid Bergman (Liz Stride); Paul Henreid (Morris Eagle); Peter Lorre (Aaron Kosmisnky); Claude Rains (Abberline); Sydney Greenstreet (Landlord of the Ten Bells); Conrad Veidt (Major Karl Warner); Barbara Stanwyck (Annie Chapman); Michele Morgan (Paulette Nichols); Mary Astor (Kate Eddowes); Lauren Bacall (Mary J Kelly); Dooley Wilson (Ballad Singer) and Walter Huston as the skipper of 'La Paloma'. The other option is the superproduction being filmed this very moment in the streets of Whitechapel, where it all happened.

Hello Eduardo, "Whitechapel" would be a smash hit. I can hear Bogey's cockney already! "Cor Blimey, mate, you played it for her, innit. Play it for me, guv." Thanking you. Jim Leen

Hello All, The current JTR film in production is nearing the end of the shooting. It has been filmed entirely on location using the actual scenes where the events took place in 1888. This is the first time ever that a movie on JTR has been done this way. I am assured that once post production and editing is finished the film will be available on VHS format, and is expected to premiere around Christmas. A&S.

Hi, There is Oliver Stone's "JTR", starring Kevin Costner, about a gallant magistrate's valiant struggle to expose a governement conspiracy to cover up murder most foul. And then there is the 2002 epic filmed on location with a cast of dozens. Cheers, E.

Hello Eduardo, Shame you will not be with us tomorrow at the C&D club. Speaking to the production Company re the current JTR film in progress. They are well on schedule to finish on time. Perhaps one or two more days shooting and then into post production etc. They are hoping it will all be in 'The Can' and ready for viewing by early December. There is a rumour that Jeremy Beadle has been asked to do the intro. I understand if he can fit it in with his committments it might be possible. Andy & Sue.

Hi Andy & Sue, I didn't realise it was going to be that sort of film. Luckily for the luvvies, it was warm in Whitechapel over the weekend. This will be a classic, folks and folkesses, if it gets past the censors that is.... Love, Caz

Author: Andy & Sue Parlour Monday, 07 October 2002 - 10:38 am
Hello Caz & everyone, Yes I agree the film will become a classic. Even a cult classic, and in time will be one of the most sought after films of its genre. I am reliably assured that filming is now finished and within the week the takes will be going into post production and the editing suite. I can comfortably say that there never has, nor ever will be, a film on JTR ever again made this way. Even big burly security guards will not stop the movie from being premiered this December. The makers even found the space and time to shoot the Caroline Maxwell scene. Keep watching this space. A&S

I hope this film isn't going to have bizzare plots involving Royals, Masons and Saturn in conjunction with Leo. Hope there isn't invented evidence lying around the place. Grape stems etc.
| |
Author: Caroline Morris Wednesday, 11 December 2002 - 08:03 am
Hi Stuart, No daft plots involving Royals, Masons or even evil old artists embittered by childhood operations. But I think there might have been a grape stem in there somewhere - oooh I could crush a grape. I'll get the producers to apologise immediately! Great premier though, even if viewed through house vodka goggles by yours truly. I'm sure it'll be a classic. Love, Caz

I want to see this film, but I've heard nothing about it outside this thread. Stupid questions follow... ...Is it on general release? Or is it only available in Londinium? Not around the rest of England. I'm from the midlands. If not, is it on video? Cheers Stu

Hello All, Great night in City Darts for first showing of 'CRAPPER' the new Jack the Ripper film. The makers have decided that the response and acclaim was so good that they are withdrawing the first 'cut' as to be able to add some more footage already filmed. The new longer version will be finished soon and and will be available in VHS format. Ready in fact for the February C&D meeting we hope. A&S

Great film! Think about a semi-documentary free-form epic with a cast of dozens. A larger-than-life saga shot in real locations throughout, combining gritty photography of East End backgrounds with the glamour of Lollywood film-making. 'Crapper' straddles the worlds of sex, philology, fashion, mayhem, theology and haute cuisine, as well as offering unmatched insight into the lives of those less fortunate than ourselves. The Philistines are already struggling to have 'Crapper' suppresed - could there be a better recommendation for the true Ripperologist? Cheers, Eduardo

Sounds interesting. My kind of film if it's gritty, and isn't full of star names. Now I just wait for the video...if I can get it round these parts.
