Simon, Boy, that Mansfield fellow was an ugly guy, wasn't he? Thanks for taking the time to post these ebay items--I think the old Punch issues would be great to own. Best, Dave PS I wouldn't buy any of the Ripper books from a reseller, though (unless they're out of print, maybe). It's my understanding that the authors don't receive any royalties from such sales, and it's no fun conducting research on an empty stomach or wearing shabby shoes!

Dave - Matters is dead, so he wouldn't get the royalties anyway, the book is long out of print, and one of the hardest-to-find Ripper books there is. Cheers Guy

Jeez, it went for £36? A bargain, I wish I hadn't gone on holiday and missed it!

Guy, In that case, I'd snap it up (if another is offered) Best, Dave

Hi, David: Regarding royalties to Ripper authors, as an author myself, I can tell you that such authors receive royalties when the book is first published and sold but of course they would not receive nor expect to receive royalties on the same book if it is later resold. Speaking as a researcher and buyer of books on the Whitechapel murders as well as titles in other fields for my various writing projects, I get the books wherever I can and I certainly would not stint to buy a book that I need on ebay or a used books site. All the best Chris George

Hi, Chris, For goodness sakes, if I ever publish a book, please buy it new so that I may receive a royalty, so I can afford to write another (laugh) Mom and Pop second hand stores are good places to go for material--and as I said, sometimes you have to for stuff that's out of print, but if I appreciate a particular author, or musician, I'll buy their work new--just because I feel they should profit, and so they'll continue to produce. I'm only talking about living writers and books in print. Best regards, Dave
