This newly released CD is described as "A MusicalConcept," but such a sparse description hardly does theproduction justice. There are a total of 19 tracks (9 aremusical, 10 are narrative) for a total of just over 50 minutes ofplaying time. The interweaving of narrative and music workmarvelously both to describe the events of the times and toprovide an enormously entertaining "rock musical."Perhaps the crowning achievement is a rendition of "A VioletFrom Mother's Grave," the song Mary Kelly was last heardsinging on the night of her death, complete with a female Irishaccent.
But the CD is just the beginning... the entire production willbe shown live by the Midnight Theatre Company. YoursTruly, Jack the Ripper will be shown at Salisbury ArtsCentre, Bedwin Street, Salisbury on Thursday 29th October &Friday 30th October at 8.00 pm. In this new and compelling appraisal of the mystery of Jackthe Ripper, narrative and music evocatively recreate the spinechilling atmosphere ot the darken alleys of Victorian London andis a unique approach to one of the world's most infamous'whodunnits'. A foreword is contributed by Stewart P Evans,author of 'Jack the Ripper, first American serial killer', whowrites, "highly recommended, an authorative historicalnarrative of the Ripper story set to music which will appeal toall".
The songs cover a diversity of styles and instrumentationexplaining the poverty, homelessness and utter desperation ofLondon's East End throughout that long Autumn of terror. Alsoincluded in an authentic rendition of the song 'A violet frommothers grave' which the last victim, Mary Kelly was singingshortly before her death on the 9 November 1888.
The Performers
Frogg Moody (composer/musician) born and bredin Salisbury, Wiltshire; Frogg has played in many bands,including cult bands like QT's and the Gurus.Frogg has toured the London circuit and Europe and has playedwith many top musicians from Jools Holland to Lemmy!
David Taylor (script writer/singer), David hasdirected plays ranging from Orton to Shakespeare and worked withKenneth Branagh among others. He is lead singer of Blues band theRhythm Blasters.
Colin Burden (narrator) founder of the BootlegTheatre Company with who he has just returned from an acclaimednational tour of Hanging Hanratty.
Sue Paramor (singer), Sue started her singingcareer as head ofthe Cathedral Choir in Cyprus. Sue is also thelead singer of Morganna.
Alan Marsh (singer) as front man of bands TokyoBlade and Shogun; Alan has played all over Europe with majoracts.
Sean Rice (singer), Sean has been a member ofIrish folk band Slainte and is currently fronting rock band PileUp.
David Ansell (singer) , David has recorded manystyles of music and is at present a member of En Masse.
