I have recently discovered that my family is connected to John George Littlechild and I visited this site in order to find out more about him. What I have discovered so far is fascinating and useful, but there is a discrepancy which I hope someone will explain.
His date of birth is given as 21 December 1848, but I have his birth certificate which is dated 21 December 1847, registered 31 January 1848. His baptism at Royston is 30 July 1848 which would be impossible if he was not born until the following December.
I am assuming, from the context, that the date of birth was obtained from his service record - is this the case?
I would be very happy if someone could let me have any further details of his life, including a fuller copy of the service record if this is not too much trouble. The family connection has been a really exciting discovery as you can imagine, so the more I can discover the happier I shall be!
