Did all them policemen really look like you're Aunty Ethel? Was it the moustache that did it?

Here's some guesses: Back row, fourth from the right, Abberline. Back row, third from the left, Walter Dew. Front row, second from right, Thomas Arnold. And the guy to his right (at the edge) looks like Donald Swanson.

Stewart, So no Godley then ?? Am I write in assuming that one of the photos used in the A - Z supposedly of Godley was, infact, not the man at all ?? Because he his strikingly similar to one of the gents in the CID photo. Confused, yet feeling slightly odd Monty. PS Thanks for putting names to the faces. PPS Wood, Auntie Ethel wants to know what time you're comming around for 'tea' !

The caption for the photograph is taken from the back of the original photograph held at the Metropolitan Police Museum. It was taken at Leman Street Police Station in 1889. Monty, no; no Godley, but, as far as I know, the photograph in the A-Z is of Godley. Steve, yes, it is one and the same Det. Sgt. Thick. Best Wishes, Stewart
