I was told many years ago by my grandmother, that my great grandfather was chief of police,of scotland yard at the time of Jack the ripper?His name was George Hill.

Sheila - Sadly, I think your grannie was telling porkies. The Metropolitan Police commissioner at the time was Sir Charles Warren. I don't recall the name George Hill cropping up anywhere in my reading on the case, so maybe your grandmother was building up his role somewhat! That's not to say he wasn't involved in some way, of course, just not in such a grand way! All the Best Guy
