Okay, I'm in desperate need of the rest of the words to one of Jack's lyrics.

I'm not a butcher, I'm not a kid, That one. I know about 8 lines of it, but I need the rest. Does anyone know it?

I'm not a butcher,
I'm not a Yid,
Nor yet a foreign skipper,
But I'm your own light-hearted friend,
Yours truly, Jack the Ripper.

I didnt notice you wrote, "I'm not a kid", it should be "Yid" a reference to Jews.
But there is only 5 lines, not 8.

Jon, hopefully you can help me out concerning the same poem, specifically, I need to know who it was attributed to?

I have discovered the following quote supposedly made by Police Inspector Frederick George Abberline after his retirement from the force concerning the identity of the Whitechapel murderer:

"I know and my superiors know certain facts . . . that the Ripper . . . wasn't a butcher, Yid or foreign skipper . . . you'd have to look for him not at the bottom of London society at the time, but a long way up."

So who wrote the poem and where did it first appear?

Thank you in advance.

Hi, Curt:

To answer if I may in Jon's place, this poem is alleged to have been sent by the killer, and thus probably comes from one of the JtR letters. The letter apparently no longer exists. The rhyme is quoted in Sir Melville Macnaghten's memoirs.

'I'm not a butcher, I'm not a Yid,
Nor yet a foreign Skipper,
But I'm your own light-hearted friend, in
Yours truly, Jack the Ripper.'

Did the inspiration come from H.M.S Pinafore by Gilbert & Sullivan?

'For he might have been a Roosian,
A French or Turk or Proosian,
Or perhaps Ital-ian!
But in spite of all temptations
To belong to other nations,
He remains an Englishman!'

Love,

Caz

Hi, Caz:

That was a good catch when you first cited it here on these boards on 16 August 1999! Are we all getting old or what???

Stewart Evans on the same day, subsequent to your post, remarked that, "Macnaghten's 'I'm not a butcher, I'm not a Yid...' was, undoubtedly just another hoax communication, and not from the killer. Albeit near contemporary. So I for one am not getting excited as to whether the scribe was a G&S fan or not as it would have no real relevance. However, it is an interesting connection to make."

Best regards

Chris,

How is it that without any evidence whatsoever proving the letters a hoax that some would deign to speak with such authority as to imply it is now a proven fact all the letters were phonies? Has anyone proved Bulling penned any of these letters?

Anderson claimed he could name the author of the letters but he never did. He also claimed he knew the identity of JTR but never revealed his name. Many doubt Anderson's claim as to the true identity of JTR and that Anderson's prideful remark was to coverup the obvious fact he never solved the case. Why do you think Anderson was so reluctant to name names?

As with so many other aspects to this case there is a poverty facts and a wealth of opinions. Nothing wrong with that at all, it makes the message board interesting to be sure. But it seems some of these opinions are starting to sound like fauxfacts.

Why is it so hard to accept JTR might have been a college educated sociopath who enjoyed provoking all those in authority? Could JTR have been one of those people whose arrested development happened his sophmore year of college and is doomed to go through life with this smug sophmoric attitude, even toward murder and mayhem?

Unless I've missed something, there are no facts proving the letters were fake or real, so its just more speculation. If the letters were fakes then the 'reporters' who penned them were almost as despicable as JTR, maybe moreso. There is a high probability JTR was a mentally deranged person who may have become that way from disease, injury, or genetics. What is the reporters excuse?

We don't have a clue who JTR was. Suspects range from the Crown Prince of England down to a pathetic wretch like Kosminski or Cohen. There is plenty of room in that range for a well educated but unlucky fellow whose brain finally snapped to begin murdering whores and writting clever taunting letters. Isn't there some evidence killers do this because they have a secrete desire to be caught, so someone will finally stop them since they can't control themselves?

Just noticed this thread is about helping somebody out with lyrics. I got carried away thinking this was about 'the JTR Letters'. Sorry Ally, do I need to move this to somewhere more appropriate?

Hi, Robeer:

This is not, as you say the right thread, but briefly I share your skepticism about the pronouncments of Sir Robert Anderson that the case was solved, a claim that was denied by other police officials, and I also do not think there is solid evidence that Thomas J. Bulling wrote the first Dear Boss letters.

Best regards

Chris George
