Casebook Message Boards: Beyond Whitechapel - Other Crimes: The Texas Ripper?: A Novel About the Texas Ripper
Author: James Jeffrey Paul Tuesday, 31 December 2002 - 11:18 pm | |
Steven Saylor, who writes mystery novels set in ancient Rome, has written a novel about the Texas Ripper or Rippers--the "Servant Girl Annihilators," as they were called--titled A TWIST AT THE END. You can find it at Amazon. I just bought a copy but haven't read it yet. The author O. Henry, who lived in Austin at the time of the murders, is the main character. (Hey--wonder if O. Henry moved to London for a few months and did the Whitechapel murders!)

JJP: It's a great book. Actually I live in Austin myself so am quite conversant with the 1885 murders (they even have a walking tour now!). Without in any way giving away the twist at the end, you all might interested to know that the novel prominently features a 'quack doctor' figure. Regards Timsta
