In 1990, Russell Bishop, who was acquitted of the "Babes in the Wood" murder of Nicola Fellowes and Karen Haddoway, (whose bodies were found concealed in undergrowth in Wild Park, Brighton, in 1986), was convicted of the attempted murder of a 7-year-old child at Devil's Dyke in Sussex. DNA evidence showed his semen and the child'saliva on a pair of track suit trousers abandoned near the scene of the assault. All the best, Martin F

Hi Martin I've done a search on thisisbrighton.co.uk and have found only that the Sussex police were reopenong some unsolved murders in 2000 and the long suffering parents of Karen and Nicola held a vigil in the Wild Park last year So it seems I was mistaken all the best steve

Martin, Please correct me if I am wrong(which is quite often). When Bishop was acquitted of the Brighton Babes in the wood murder, didn't the Sussex Police show their anger, by saying, that as far as they are concerned, they are looking for no one else? Andy P.

Probably, Andy. The police often do announce that they are not starting a new investigation when they feel that a jury has flown in the face of the evidence, but they cannot challenge the majesty of the courts by simply saying, "This acquital is a miscarriage of justice".. All the best, Martin

Martin, Really appreciate that comment. It makes it a lot easier to understand now. The officer in charge of the Stephen Lawrence investigations said something very similar when the accused were acquitted after their trial I recall. Andy P.

Yes indeed, Andy. And as far as that comment went, fair enough. But while I regard the Acourt brothers and their gang with all the loathing accorded them by the rest of the country, I feel that the Met was pressured by orchestrated public opinion into going over the top in abusing their civil rights. What would have been said if some black kids suspected of killing a white boy had suffered the installation of secret cameras and recording devices in their private flat, which caught them making odious comments but did nothing to prove their guilt, and then the tapes were passed out to be shown on national television? All the best, Martin

Hi Martin. I'm not sure whether you are aware of it, but two of the Acourt gang were recently in the news for having perpetrated a(nother) race attack - this time on an off-duty policeman. Bye, Garry Wroe.

Yup, I spotted it, Garry. I've no opinions to offer on their claims that they were being picked on and the policeman's counter-claim that this was another example of their racism. I don't doubt their racism, for one minute. I don't doubt, either, that the police are dying to get the killers of Stephen Lawrence, who currently rest happy under double jeopardy protection since the Lawrences were so badly advised by race relations professionals that they instituted their premature and inevitably unsuccessful private prosecution. All the best in a sad old world, Martin F
