G'day everyone,

Sorry about my political incorrectness. Looks like I might have to exile myself again.

Hey Cindy, no questions are stupid. If people hesitated before they asked anything, just in case they thought the question was stupid, not very many questions would get asked at all. So ask away to your hearts content.

I did feel kinda silly when I realised what a mistake I had made but I was citing information from a Dr and I believed that the word of a professional should be accepted. From here on in I will check every bit of information to be sure of it's authenticity before I post it.

Feel free to take all my jokes with a grain of salt though. Not many of them are true.

Jules

Here's a question that's been bothering me for a while and I throw this open to everyone. For ten points, who identified the body of Elizabeth Stride, and when? Now, this is a little trickier than it would seem at first glance so before anyone rushes over to the A-Z, consider:
  • The A-Z: PC Walter Stride.
  • Mammoth book of JTR: John Arundell and Charles Preston.
  • Fido: PC Walter Stride.
  • Cullen: Michael Kidney.
  • Wilson and Odell: Sven Ollsen.
  • Rumbelow: unnamed witnesses and Sven Ollsen.
  • Tully: John Arundell and Charles Preston.

etc. etc. Some authors fail to mention the problems in identifying Stride, while others point to the fact that the police already knew who she was but needed verification from a family member or loved one. Colin Wilson and Robin Odell claim that Stride was recognized by members of the crowd when her body was taken away, but unless they had x-ray vision, I can't see how that would be possible. Also, what was the time and date of the identification? Sunday the 30th or Monday the 1st?

Wolf.

Hi All,

It never fails to astonish me how many inconsistencies there are in the case of Jack the Ripper. I'm not surprised this mystery is taking so long to sort out!
Looking forward to the responses on this one,

Love,

Caz

There's very few undisputable facts in this case, the medical evidence is not always as exact as we would like.
The witness testimonies are vague and too general at best.
Police reports are sparse. Press reports can be coloured & ripe with exageration.
The specified times around the murders can't be relied on.

The paperwork recording these crimes in the early 1890's must have been vast, and what are we left with ?,...only two actual inquest reports, a number of home office files, a handfull of Scotland Yard files, a few score newspaper articles, and the dubious memoires of some very capable Police officials, but unfortunatly written too long after the facts.

Why do we bother ????

Well, I hate Fishing,...gardening....
I hate..wallpapering....tennis....
I hate golf....baseball...hockey.
I hate.....
I hate....
I hate...
Don't ever solve this case...or one of us is gonna die !!!!!!

Pesimisticaly, Jon

G'day everyone.

I thought she was identified by her drivers licence and all the tags on her clothes which said Lizzie Stride.

Hmmm, Maybe I'm mistaken.

Hey Jon!

I'm afraid we're all gonna die, but that isn't pessimism, that's logic :-)

Hi Jules!

Just as well her knickers weren't bought from C&A, otherwise you might have got Liz mixed up with er, oh you think of something.....:-)

Hi David!

Sweet 'n' sour prawns.

Love,

Caz

Well david, that was short and sweet but it really doesn't help. I need actual references and a date. The ten points is still up for grabs.

Jon, YOU HATE HOCKEY??????, Never, EVER, say that, even in jest!!! You now owe the spirit of Gump Worsley a sacrifice, and not any chincy one either. May Teeder Kennedy show you the error of your ways so that one day your soul will be allowed to enter that big rink in the sky, Maple Leaf Gardens. I will prey for you.

Trouble is Wolf, where I grew up only girls play hockey & only girls played rounders (the English forunner of Baseball)

I'm not into sports, gimme murder, mystery & mayhem any day.
The only time I ever went to the Maple Leaf Gardens was to take the girls to 'rastlin, Hulk Hogan & the likes, what we do for families :-)
Anyway, I don't have a soul, nothing worth saving.

Were you making a play on words?
prey=Wolf as opposed to pray=religion?

I won't go into things I do like,.....children watching. :-)

And yes, I will prey for you,(watch those shadows), Have a good weekend, and remember, always keep your stick on the ice, go to the net and good things will happen and watch your back going into the corners.

Hey you guys!

Wolf, 'prey' desist.
Jon, are you not scared you may be told to 'bulley' off? :-)

What I'm saying is you'd better watch out for the board police inspectors. You just made three sporty personal off-topic posts which would have had yours truly sent off for an early bath. But something tells me you won't even be shown a yellow card. Not fair! ;-)

I'll now make way for some more Stride identification marks out of ten. Perhaps you ought to make the prize ten pints. You may get a quicker response, Wolfy :-)

Love,

Little Red Riding Caz

Not really Caz.

You see there are some of us who have a bit of a reputation for being mostly serious, with a little jest every now & then.

Then there are others who have a reputation for being mostly serious all the time.

Then there's other's who....well....just have a reputation....
:-)

Yer baths gettin cold, Jon

Little RED riding Caz ????
Are you trying to tell us something :-)

Hi y'all.

WOLF: The who & when of Stride's identification? We danced down that street recently. Check out the General Discussion> Neck Wounds board for posts running from April 1st through April 7th of 1999 between Jim DiPalma, David R. & me, plus the inquest testimony posted April 3rd by Stewart. If we miss out on your 10 points, how's about an honorable mention?

Take care,
Janice*

*Placing my right hand on my stack of Ripper books, I solemnly swear Ashling is the only screen name I ever posted under here - and in the future will only post under Ashling and/or Janice.

Hi All!

Hey Jon!
Reputation? Moi? Have I made it then?? :-)
And no, I never try and TELL anyone ANYTHING. It doesn't work and it tends to annoy people :-) :-)

Thanks, Janice, for providing the sensible info and stuff as usual. You should get more than an honourable mention, girl. You're a Godsend and you always put us all back on the straight and narrow :-)

Love,

Little Red-head Riding Caz (taking a long Stride outta here sharpish)

And the ten points go to...Ashling. Thanks for the help, although I couldn't seem to access anything in April before the 4th, it was enough to answer my question.

Thanks again.

Hi y'all.

WOLF: At the most, I can claim 2.5 points for myself, but on behalf of all of us --- Glad it helped a bit. The posts previous to April 4th were archived, but still accessible -- at least, on the days the computer gods are smiling.

Take care,
Janice

P.S.
I haven't forgotten about Mary Kelly's time of death -- still tracking down some of my elusive references. I don't need more computer memory, just a larger desk.

Hi All,

As one with an avid interest in the Stride case, I must say that her topic is beyond dead.

Yet I wonder if anyone who posts on this thread of Liz being a victim of JTR or not and the details pertaining thereto can offer more?

I offer a challenge to all who post on Elizabeth Stride. At the US-JTR Conference in April 8-9, 2000, we will be holding a panel discussion on Stride. Who is willing to offer his/her views & information in a public forum? Who is willing to stand up for what they believe? Who has the information to support their their conclusions?

Who will accept this challenge?

Cheers,

Dave,
I will accept your challenge that Liz Stride, is not a victim of Jack the ripper. It is easy to beat a dead horse i know, but what a challenge to publicly denounce a victim! HA HA, The game is a foot! Please email me, with the information and I will have a crack at it.
Yours truly,
Tim

a foot is a foot, but afoot is proper pardon my space bar. I love a challenge even if i am proven wrong. It is good to make the grey cells work, especially when the have been resting for a while. So if anyone wants to have a little fun, email me, and we will take a new perspective on this subject. Any takers of this offer is welcomed and so very appreciated.
Tim
