| Well it is possible. They ALL knew someone who became a suspect i.e. Cathrine Eddowes knew his identity but murdered before naming him. Stride knew Michael Kidney who became a suspect a Kelly (if the theory is to be true) knew James Kelly, Joseph Barnett and George Hutchinson. Furthermore they either lived in or had Flower and Dean Street connections. Chapman, Stride and Kelly were documented to have frequented the Ten Bells. Stride often used 33 Dorset street with suspect Michael Kidney but also Chapman from May of 1888 onwards stayed at 35 Dorset street VERY near to Stride. And Nichols,Stride possibly others did also go to the Lambeth Infirmary. NOW DID THE VICTIMS KNOW EACH OTHER? |

I always got the impression, when Catharine Eddowes made the comment about knowing the Ripper, that she was just kidding around and making conversation. If the man had asked her "well who do you think it is?" she would have answered something like "well its my HUSBAND of course, he "murders" me everytime I come in late"....ugh, that was terrible but at least you get the gist of what I am saying. I never felt she was serious when making that comment, merely bringing up the "news of the day"...if she knew who it was really, I can't imagine she would go around publicizing it. I guess it all just depends on how seriously you take every word that was recorded.
I've often wondered what context of the cry "Oh, murder!" was. Was it screamed in a terrified way? I could almost imagine this being yelled out in a vexed tone of voice, like hitting your head painfully or something.
Tone of voice can make a lot of difference. |

It is my understanding that there is no evidence that the victims knew each other. However, I can believe it possible that they may have recognized each other in passing.
There are others, I'm sure, that can answer this better than I.

| Considering the profession that they were involved in,its really very likely that they DID know OF each other at least. They probably bumped into each other at least once( maybe around that Church Mr.Rumbelow called,"The Prostitutes Church"....)...and then again,weren't they all pretty good with the bottle? Maybe a belt or two at the local taproom? Likewise,at the time of day they were out soliciting,the chances increase that they were familiar with each other....maybe the same clientele. |

I feel confident these ladies were at the very least on nodding terms with each other. It seems like the one thing all had in common, at one time or another, was Dorset St. But there were a lot of common lodging houses there, so maybe its reading too much into that.

As to the question of whether the victims knew one another or not: I live in an apartment complex with about 100 other people. I only know about twenty people by sight and ten by name. Dorset street alone had upwards of 750 lodging house beds. Each night there would have been a large turnover of transient people. It is quite possible that none of the victims knew one another; either by sight or by name.

| I beleive that all the victims had at least a nodding acquaintance with each other. Yes, there were thousands of people living in the area, but they all were in too many of the same places at the same times, doing the same things, they had to have all seen each other before. I do not believe that Mary Kelly would have had the same clientele, she could afford to be much pickier (due to her youth and purported beauty) and also would have been able to charge a higher rate (in my humble opinion). |
