Casebook Message Boards: Ripper Suspects: Ripper Suspects: Royal theory
Author: Ashleah Skinner Saturday, 03 August 2002 - 06:55 pm | |
Hi i may not be the first to say this but im sure the royal family was well known but if the ripper was a prince im sure the witnessess who came forward would have known they were a prince, The people in the East End were hardened and poor but not stupid so i find the royal theory INNOCENT AS CHARGED.

Dear Ashleah: I agree, and I think that the majority of those that take a serious look at the available information would agree also. But let me play Devil's Advocate for about 10 seconds... Don't you think that the killer could have disguised himself if he wanted to? Warm regards, Divia

Hello all, I agree. The Royal Family theories are bogus. Still, as Divia questions, the killer could have disguised himself if he wanted to. I'm sure in a way he did. I do not suggest he completely changed his appearance, but perhaps he wore the "deerstalker hat" or a similar article of clothing to help hide his face. You know? But, anyway... the Royal Theories are ridiculous. Best wishes, Joe PS -- Glad to finally catch up to you on a board, Divia.

I certainly do not believe this theory either, but one thing bugs me at bit - why on earth is it so popular, in spite of all the evidence against it? Gunnar

Dear Gunnar: For some people, fiction is better than fact. And certainly, the Royal Conspiracy theory is far more entertaining (for movie plot anyway) than a sad, poor immigrant that was killing prostitutes for jollies. Not that I am totally convinced that it was a sad, poor immigrant, mind you. Just an example. Warm regards, Divia

Just out of interest - why do you think that everyone in the East End would know what the Royal family looked like? No TV, precious few photographs..... unless you met them in the flesh or saw their portrait, you'd only have a vague idea.

Surely the best conspiracies ARE totally ridiculous , that way nobody believes in them. I think there was an episode of ' X Files ' that made this very point , starring Jesse Ventura as a ' Man in Black '...

Don't you think that if the Royal Family wanted to 'silence' anyone, they could have done it more silently. Surely they could have caused a few 'accidents' that wouldn't have alarmed the public! LEANNE!

G'day, .....But if the Royal Family had have taken the easy option of causing a few 'accidents', no one would have bought any literature about it or gone to see any movies about it. Come to think about it...it would have been a pretty boring subject! LEANNE!

Dorian Gray by Oscar Wilde was written after the Whitechapel murders, but in a very general way, it reminds me of the Royal Conspiracy. A rich young man making trips to the poor end of town, falling in love with a young woman. Vicki
