Casebook Message Boards: Ripper Suspects: Ripper Suspects: Stowell's characterisation of Gull as "most illustrious"
Author: John Middleton Wednesday, 05 June 2002 - 06:33 am | |
In the Criminologist article, Thomas Stowell writes: "...it was not unnatural for the rumour mongers to pick on a most illustrious member of my profession of the time - perhaps of all time - Sir William Gull." Why did he suggest that Gull should 'perhaps' be called the "most illustrious" medic of all time? As far as I am aware, no-one else has suggested that Gull was up there with say Galen or Paracelsus.
