Casebook Message Boards: Ripper Suspects: Specific Suspects: Later Suspects [ 1910 - Present ]: Westcott, Dr. Wynne

First of all, let me make it absolutely clear that I DO NOT look upon Dr. Wynne Westcott as a serious Ripper suspect. Neither was he a Satanist, as some have pictured him. He was a British Rosicrucian scholar with a vast knowledge of what might be termed Christian Magic. On the other had, he WAS the coroner for Central London during the Ripper murders. Was this entirely a concidence? I don't know - that's why I'm asking. Did Dr. Westcott have any connection AT ALL with the Ripper investigations? While the murders did not take place in his balliwick, I could see all the London coroners being called in as consultants - and would be highly surprised (and suspicious) if they were not. poetdreamerscholar@yahoo.com

re: Dr. William Wynn Wescott/Wynne Westcott. Now I agree with the previous poster that Wescott is one of those late-Victorian figures who weren't contemporary suspects and there is absolutely no evidence against them. But there is a little more to Wescott. He was in his 30's when he got involved with the extremely odd Samuel Macgregor/Mathers. They were both involved in general occultry; not of course Satanism as the disciples of that particular Christian heresy then and now could be fitted into the smaller broom-cupboard in the Bishopsgate Institute, but into what became the Golden Dawn an organisation later notorious for being taken over by Mr. Crowley. Wescott seems to have been the instigator of the whole thing having either discovered or invented certain occult papers leading to the mysterious Anna Sprengel in Bavaria, home of various conspiracies..HOWEVER: Was William Wynn Wescott connected to the North Wales Wynn family, one of whose members was Watkin Wynn Williams grandson of Sir Charles Warren? Interestingly, the Wynn family home in Wrexham is owned by the National Trust and has a large manuscript library, not yet indexed. Does the truth lie there? Peter

Hi, Peter: O, you old conspiracy theorist, you! By the way, any new information for me on that "enterprising London journalist" Thomas J. Bulling? Anything would be appreciated since, as you know, I have to present on the JtR letters in Park Ridge, New Jersey, in early April. Incidentally, as you are probably aware, another person interested in the JtR letters is Red Demon aka Tom Wescott. A link there with Dr. William Wynn Wescott/Wynne Westcott, perchance? Oh, the mind boggles! Chris: I should have some Bulling stuff for you soon BUT: You really don't know the half of it; the conspiracy stretches even farther. Regard please Edward Alexander Crowley who in 1881 as a child of 5 lived next door to Mary Graham! Crowley, who took over the Golden Dawn about 1898 knew of D'Onston who lived close to Forbes Winslow and Walter Sickert. And Victor Neuberg, famously turned into a camel by Crowley was written about by Jean Fuller who also connects Sickert, D'Onston and Mary Kelly. And when you speak of Tom Wescott, please remember that another contributor is one Mark Warren! Don't consider this too closely or the next caller may be the Illuminati. Or possibly the Spanish Inquisition. Peter.

Hello Peter: Obviously Jack's evil conspiracy stretches much further than even you or I had envisioned. I am pleased though, that in attempting to fathom the murky depths of the Ripper conspiracy we are not letting our best investigative skills fail us and that new information is imminent, including a better assessment of the role of Bulling, that enterprising London journalist, in this whole network of lies and deceit! :-) Best regards Chris George

Just Jumping around some of the suspects here, but I also would greatly welcome more detailed information about Mr. Bulling the Journalist, especially a sample of his handwriting so that it could be compared to the "immaculate" script of the "Dear Boss" letter and postcards he is oft accused of forging..Did anyone ever notice, completely out of character with the slang and misspellings (an area of expertise for me, obviously) that the handwriting is absolutely beautiful on the second page especially. Could some uneducated slum dweller who spoke in eastend slang, used some wrong words and mispelled, have handwriting which reflects education and even sophistication...any takers on this subject.. Probably belongs in a different section of the boards, but comments are welcome...
