Casebook Message Boards: Ripper Suspects: Specific Suspects: Later Suspects [ 1910 - Present ]: Llewellyn, Dr. Ralph Rees

There is a theory that has been going around for sometime about Dr. Llewellyn being the ripper. The facts behind it are something about him having a brain tumor and using the victims as some type of experiments and that would explain why some of the organs were missing. Also didn't the Ripper send some of the parts to the police?

Perhaps one of reasons why the killer never sent parts to the police is that no one can prove conclusively that he ever did take any of the victims internal organs. I know people think that the kidney came from Eddowes but there as never been any concrete proof of this. Second if the killer did indeed take internal organs from the victims it is quite possible that he kept them as some sort of trophy for himself, remember that the FBI thinks that Jack the Ripper was a disorganized killer and that killers of this type usually will take some body part from the victim, not to relive the fantasy like an organized killer would(although organized killers do not usually take body parts), but for some twisted reason in their own mind. It is not inconcievable that the killer would keep body parts for himself.

Dr. Llewellyn lived very close to several victims, and could tie in as a abortionist covering up his mistakes. The abortionist theory would certainly work in Mary Kelly's case, as Mary was three months pregnant. An abortionist would also apply to other potential suspects such as Dr. Francis Tumblety.

Llwellyn? A suspect? Where did the theory that Dr. Rees Ralph Llwellyn was the Ripper first originate? Who denounced him as a suspect, and what evidence (conclusive or circumstancial) exists in support of the theory? To my knowledge, the only work to have cast suspicion upon him was the 1988 tele-movie "Jack the Ripper", starring Michael Caine. Apart from said movie, I personally have never heard of the existence of a theory in favour of Dr Llwellyn being Jack the Ripper. Such a theory has not appeared in any book I have thus far read on Jack the Ripper. I don't believe any of the books regarded as authoritative have ever disucussed it in any way. It would be interesting to know if there in fact are any other theories suggesting Llwellyn was the killer. I figured the above-mentioned movie's depicition as such could be attributed to nothing more than the employment of dramatic license.

Dr. Rees Ralph Llewellyn; witness at Mary Ann Nichols inquest. Examined her body. performed cursory examination of the body in Buck's Row. Noticed there was only a wine glass and a half of blood in the gutter beside her, but has on doubt she had been killed on the spot. Subsequently made a full examination of the body in the Old Montague Street warehouse Infirmary Mortuary. The Times reported his findings. ABOVE come from Jack the Ripper A-Z. page254. No further commentary attributed to him. Doesn't make a very good suspect does he? The movie "Jack the Ripper" listed him as a suspect according to inspector Abbeline, who also, listed an American Actor named "Mansfield" who, according to the movie was supposed to be an accomplice of Robert James Lees. I may be mistaken at this point, but so far, but I have not read anything on Abbeline listing a Mansfield suspect.

Dear Sirs: I have found this very interesting article well worth reading. There has to be more information somewhere about who was "Jack" or was this some sort of a cov er up? I just don't know. My Best Regards, John David Bednarz 314 Blaine Street Iron Mountain, Michigan. 49801 U.S.A.

Well, if anyone saw the Jack The Ripper Movie starring Michael Caine at the end, they use a woman as bait, and they catch him,but because he is who he is,they have to release him,and when they get back to Scotland yard, they are told that no-one will be told, the woman used as bait was paid not to tell and the character Michael Caine played was naturally peeved at this. Look for it in the Video shop,it is a really good movie showing a lot of attention to detail, and when I saw it at the age of 11 it scared the heck out of me as they completely recreate the body scene of Mary Jane Kelly as it looks in the police evidence photo except in colour. It also goes into other less known facts that are brought up in the movie. truly, watch it and see for yourself
