Hypothesis:

Mary Pearcey before her death, put the following in the Madrid newspapers: M.E.C.P. last wishes of M.E.W. Have not betrayed. Nothing has been mentioned of this...however, it could be a rather large clue.

Lets assume the royal conspiracy is true..or at least a conspiracy on the part of high officials to protect families. It is unlikely that Eddy murdered any of the victims, he simply doesn't fit the profile. However, it is probable that one could use the Masonic rituals to explain matters of the deaths of the women. The disection, geometry, allogories and symbolism, and the gradual building of the final piece all are parts of freemasonry and are evident in the murders. Every piece, every cut is part of the whole, meaning everything had to be calculated and measured, not be done by an uneducated, ill, or raving mad man. If one were to assume that the killings were part of a masonic ritual (freemasons were gentry, nobles or professionals for the most part), then we can link William Gull (a known freemason), the coroner, Anderson, Eddy (indirectly), and Mary Pearcey(by implication through her phrase put in the newspaper). Pearcey, if the assumption is true could have been working with the freemasons primarily Gull, the driver and Anderson, could have been the bait for the women. If the assumption is true in that Eddy could have had an illegitimate child, and Mary Kelly knew of it...everything makes sense. (Eddy was the Royal Master of the Lodge #16). Consider for a moment: M.E.C.P. last wishes of M.E.W. Have not betrayed. If Pearcey was an apprentice in the mason lodges (women were allowed), she would have had an ultimate duty to uphold the secrecy of their dealings. Ok, Mary, Elizabeth, Chapman, Polly. Last wishes of Masters Eddy and William. Have not betrayed. Make any sense? (Eddowes was a mistake meant to be Kelly) To possibly explain why Chapman is being used instead of Annie, perhaps delves into the idea that Annie was the name of Eddy's possible lover. Perhaps out of respect, they chose to use the surname in lieu of the first.

No offense to Brooke and David, but the chain of logic offered above is tortured at best. I am reminded of Adam West in the 60's camp classic "Batman"(he was attacked while at sea. Sea = C, "C" for Catwoman, get it!). Actually, all of the various takes on the Royal Conspiracy theory sound even nuttier to me than the average JFK or Roswell theory.

We all find the Whitechapel murders fascinating ( the very existance of this page proves that), but at their base they are nothing but five ( six? eight? ) murdered whores, probably killed by an ordinary man. All of the elaborate B-movie theories are cut to shreds by Occham's Razor, and only serve to distract us all from legitimate historical research.

I've always wonderd about Mary Pearcey. What were her motivations in killing her lover and his child? What would motivate her to put in ad in a MADRID newspaper (in English yet)? Does anyone know her background or history? Mike

Mary Eleanor Wheeler Pearcey was a Victorian
Lady who had fallen in love with one Frank Hogg.
But she had a rival, who married Hogg. Phoebe
and Frank Hogg had a baby. Mrs. Pearcey invited
Mrs. Hogg to her home, and although the lady
did not trust Pearcey she went with the child.
In the home, Mrs. Peacey killed her successful
rival with a knife (in a very bloody fashion), and
then put the corpse of Phoebe on top of her baby,
who was suffocated as a result. When it was
dark, Mrs. Pearcey wheeled the dead mother and
child in the latter's parambulator across the
Hampstead district of London, until she found a
spot to abandon it. When the bodies were first
found the next day, at first it was thought it was
just a drunken woman, but the constable who found
it quickly realized it was a murder victim. Due
to the injuries, and the ferocity they showed,
the public first thought it could be the handiwork
of Jack the Ripper. But eventually the dead woman
was identified as Phoebe Hogg, and her wanderings
were traced back to the home of Mrs. Pearcey.
The police visited her home, and found (despite
some effort at washing them away) blood stains
over the kitchen walls. Mrs. Pearcey explained
she had been killing mice. She was arrested.
She was executed later in 1890. The message in
the newspaper has never been solved, but F.Tennyson Jesse (who wrote a chapter on Mrs.
Pearcey in her classic, MURDER AND ITS MOTIVES)
believes that Mrs. Pearcey, ever a romantic, had
read of such a message in some book, and then
decided to send one out for effect.
