Casebook Message Boards: General Discussion: Miscellaneous: Would Women Pay Jack A Visit.......If He Was Behind Bars?
Author: Howard Brown Wednesday, 08 January 2003 - 09:34 pm | |
Dear posters ( and especially the best kind..the girl-kind ! ): I just read an update at Crime Library about the Yorkshire Ripper. Seems that he has had a lot of female pen pals( over 30 a week ) and a few visitors while in the slammer....This all got my few chunks of grey matter that I have left to thinking. Dear ladies: What is it about guys like the Yorkshire Ripper that make him and others like him, MORE interesting to women AFTER he committed his crimes than BEFORE? I know he had a pretty boss looking chick for a wife at one time,I'll give him that.Other than that woman,he seemed to not do so well with the soft ankles.... Is it the celebrity ? Is it the crimes themselves ? WHY would otherwise normal chicks go ga-ga over a dude like him? Tell me,Girlkind !

Ky....Thanks for that input. What I meant by "normal" is that they have jobs, friends, kids,an apparent raison d'etre....So now that you know what I meant, gimme your opinion again....muchas gracias, senorita !

Hi Howard, It seems people get confused by the difference between celebrity and notorious. For whatever reason, some people want to be near the famous - regardless of the reason the person is well-known. Regards, Rich

O.K. Howard, How 'bout whack-jobs masquerading as normal? How much raison d'etre can they really have if they are spending their time pursuing SK's? Ky

P.S. He would probably be inundated with women who thought that they could *fix* him! Ky

Hi Howard: Well, how would Charles Manson get all those women to follow him? Why does he still get all kinds of fan mail on a daily basis? Charisma. How could an ugly little man such as Hitler get such a loyal following in a relatively short time span? Charisma. How could Jim Jones get a thousand people to follow him into the jungles of Guyana, and then persuade them to kill their fellow parishoners and themselves by ingesting cyanide-laced Flavor-Aid? Charisma. These men could be extremely charming, persuasive, and manipulative. Small wonder that they could still have a following* of people that still believe that these men were right. Warm regards, Divia *Just a note: The Peoples Temple is no longer in existence, and the stigma attached to being a member of the Temple (they were publicly labeled "baby-killers") drove away the surviving members of the Temple. However, that does not mean that some of the surviving members no longer think that Jones was right. Deborah Layton stated in her book Seductive Poison that she continued to receive threats after the Jonestown Massacre.

Dear Divia.....I know what you mean about the charismatic effect the people above had. However, the people you mentioned are in a different position. The ones I am referring to are in jail and are being sought out AFTER the fact. You are right in your meaning. Do you see what I am trying to say? Sutcliffe was an unknown,NOW a known....Ramirez,Bianchi,etc.. likewise....Whats your take on it now,as I have been a little more clear in my meaning ? Thanks ! .... HB Richard & Ky: Thank you too !!
