Casebook Message Boards: General Discussion: Miscellaneous: The Original Murder Sites

It's so depressing to walk around the area and see what used to be the Ripper sites. They've changed so much, they don't look anything like what you see in sketches and photos. The worst part is that much of the change is recent. It's too bad they couldn't have been preserved as historical sites. If I had my way...

I've sometimes thought it would be neat to have a theme park. The area in Whitechapel was small. Reproduce the relevant street layouts. Most buildings would look right from the outside but would be shells. Relevant buildings (MJK's room) would have an interior. Put a gift shop in the rest of the building. Have somebody famous like Mr. Rumbelow do tours. After dark do reenactments. Hire actors to portray relevant people. A pity -- I don't have any money to speak of and I know nothing about marketing!

Great theme park! Don't forget to bring the kids! They could have an animatronic Mary J. Kelly screaming as Jacky slaughters her! With fake blood jetting onto the walls! And fake post-murder dummies of Eddowes and Kelly! The kids would love that! Seriously though- That sounds great. Interesting, to say the least. I would get a lifetime pass- maybe even apply for a job. A nice fantasy. Of course, they could do it in Prague if they wanted (unless they've already demolished the From Hell set). Even though it's not all of Whitechapel- just key locations- it would still be interesting.

Who knows, maybe reenactments would provide new insights. You are absolutely right about kids. I'm an elementary school teacher and there is no way kids should be exposed to some of this stuff. I have posted messages on this board in the past expressing concern that a child might stumble onto this website and get a look at some of those mortuary shots or MJK's crime scene shots. Even some of our discussions would not be appropriate. Evidently there is little that can be done to limit access. To my knowledge I have never seen a posting on these boards by a child. Occasionally we have an older teen who is doing a school paper on JTR and wants help with research.

I just thought I should make sure I clear something up here. My previous post was meant to be entirely humorous. I wasn't trying to preach or say "think of the children". Actually, you'd be suprised by the age of some amateurs. I myself first got into the case around 13 or 14. I dove right in. Mortuary photographs and all. I bought several books and educated myself on the subject.

And this is the message that we're delivering to little kids? And expect that not to know what an autopsy is? Of course they're going to know what murder is by the time they hit fourth grade ...they've got the discovery channel, don't they? A Jack the Ripper theme park. Now I've heard it all. Peter.

Maybe Mr Marshall Mathers himself would agree to be "Jack". Rather too successfully, I fear.

Dear Peter, Here we don't even need the Discovery Channel for kiddies; we have the ever infamous school bus. Anything you never wanted your child to know and more. An autopsy could be done quickly by any of those little brutes!! But I love the Discover Channel. Thanks, Paula
