Author: Brian Hall Friday, 27 September 2002 - 02:59 pm
Hello Everyone Although I've been reading various message boards on this website for well over a year now, this is my first post. Reading the boards has moved me in several new directions with regard to my favorite suspect. The boards have contributed to a renewed interest and the purchase of several new books. I attended my first ( & only ) Conference this past spring in Baltimore as a result of this outstanding site. Now that brings me to the reason for my 1st post. Does anyone have any info on the proposed 2003 Conference in Liverpool?? SEMPER FI B.E. HALL MAJOR USMC

Hi Brian The conference will be in Liverpool 15th to 17th August at the Britannia Adelphi (posh!) If it'S as good as the last UK Conference it will be amazing! I'll be there, hope you will be too! If you want any more info - just ask! Love Liza P.S. I'll be the one selling the raffle tickets (for excellent prizes!)

Yes, yes, yes! I hope Chris T. George comes over from America for this one. We can get a few message board chums together and tour jolly sites such as James Maybrick's grave and James Maybrick's old house. Oh I can't wait! Peter. P.S. I do a very reasonable B&B for those who find all the Liverpool hotels booked up. P.P.S. Will those in the know please tell me how to get tickets etc etc? Ta very much.

Hi, all: Briefly, because I am up late tonight working on a big history project (non-JtR related), information is out on the upcoming August 15-17, 2003 UK convention in Liverpool and appears in the new issue of Ripperologist just out. I leave it to Adam Wood to provide the details. Needless to say, I will be there, and my wife Donna and I look forward to meeting Peter Wood and many of you that we only know from these boards. Best regards Chris George

I am trying my best to make sure I can be there...it'll mainly be a question of saving the dough. I've been meaning to get over there to take a look at the PRO files on the case, so this let's me kill two birds with one stone. B

Hi, Dave: Thanks. I think Herman's Hermits may have been from Manchester too... or else Birmingham. I am sure Rick Parmenter or Monty will set me right if Peter Noone (Herman) and gang were in fact from Brummingum aka "The Black Country." Chris

Hi, Howard: Thanks for the reminder about the Smiths... actually a bit after my time he he as a teen in the UK -- I came to the U.S. in 1968 at age 20. Hi, David: As for the Wood that you mention, is that the same "Wood" that in Macbeth, Act V, Scene V, doeth move from Birnam to Dunsinane? MACBETH: Well, say, sir. MESSENGER: As I did stand my watch upon the hill, I look'd toward Birnam, and anon, methought, The wood began to move. MACBETH: Liar and slave! MESSENGER: Let me endure your wrath, if't be not so: Within this three mile may you see it coming; I say, a moving grove. MACBETH: If thou speak'st false, Upon the next tree shalt thou hang alive, Till famine cling thee: if thy speech be sooth, I care not if thou dost for me as much. I pull in resolution, and begin To doubt the equivocation of the fiend That lies like truth: 'Fear not, till Birnam wood Do come to Dunsinane:' and now a wood Comes toward Dunsinane. Arm, arm, and out! If this which he avouches does appear, There is nor flying hence nor tarrying here. I gin to be aweary of the sun, And wish the estate o' the world were now undone. Ring the alarum-bell! Blow, wind! come, wrack! At least we'll die with harness on our back. Exeunt MACGEORGE: Nudge, nudge, wink, wink.

Ah, Oasis--that's right, that's right. Great music--has Liam realized yet Noel sings just as well(and writes all the songs to boot)? I wonder if those who attend in Liverpool will be able to understand a word Peter says Dave

Alan - All that seems to be known at the moment (at least, on this end of the pond) is that the conference is Friday-Sunday, August 15-17, at the Britannia Adelphi Hotel in Liverpool. Currently, the cost is estimated at 200 pounds for the weekend, but that has not yet been finalised. I expect the December Ripperologist will have much more in the way of detail, which we editorial gremlins at Ripper Notes will then blatantly steal for our own use. Having had a wonderful time in Bournemouth, I'm looking forward to seeing old friends (and making new ones) in Liverpool. But to return to Liverpudlian music - how can you forget the Big Three? Or the Fourmost? What about Cilla Black, Billy J. Kramer and the Dakotas, Rory Storm and the Hurricanes - and oh, yes, there was also some group calling itself Long John and the Silver Beatles - anyone know what happened to them?

Author: Guy Hatton Tuesday, 19 November 2002 - 12:45 pm
I think they became Johnny and the Moondogs!

Nah Nah, those guys were the Quarrymen. Incidentally when I was in Liverpool for the reopening of the Cavern Club in 1984 I was introduced (as "a poet from Philadelphia") to some guys from a group called Faron and the Flamingos a band I was told was "better than the Beatles...." I had never heard of 'em! I also, guilty admission, have to confess to liking Gerry and the Pacemakers more than the Beatles in the beginning. I got Gerry's autograph at the Cavern reopening. Chris

Chris.....If you were a poet from Philadelphia, you would have been the best one...The one thing Philly never produced was a great band.....

Hi, Howard: What about Frank Stallone and bandmates??? Of course, Walt Whitman was from over the river in Paterson, NJ, as was Allen Ginsberg...

Howard: "The one thing Philly never produced was a great band....." What about The O'Jays? Regards Timsta

Author: Howard Brown Tuesday, 19 November 2002 - 07:34 pm
Chris.....Philly has the Whitman Bridge, which goes to Camden for all you Campbell Soup fans....Paterson is closer to New York....Stallone? You mean the doo-wop scene on Kensington Avenue in ROCKY ? Now thats a Philly poet... Timsta: How is Austin? I used to skip school to go to Guadalupe St.(lived in Killeen) and have some friends in Austin.....Now that is a music city second to none !! Austin is America's London....
