Casebook Message Boards: General Discussion: Miscellaneous: The Wages of Sin??
Author: Jim Leen Monday, 02 September 2002 - 05:09 am | |
Hello Everybody, One intriguing facet of the crimes, which seems to have been overlooked, is what happened to the victims' money. We know that they were actively soliciting and, in some cases, it can be surmised that they had a few pennies on their person. But no money ever turned up at the crime scenes. So was Jack the Ripper a petty thief as well as a vicious murderer? All answers and considerations will be gratefully received. Why I may even thank you for a correction, humble soul that I am. Thanking you. Jim Leen

I'm agast Jim, you have not been reading the boards of late, you bad boy. We touched on this issue a couple of weeks ago, and I recall making the point that a profiler might conclude that the fact there was no money found might lead us to believe the killer retrieved his 4d (fee) from her pockets (Eddowes/Chapman) because he was from the lower classes. A contemporary suggestion for the removal of Chapmans rings were that this was a blind by the killer to lead the police to think the motive of the crime was robbery, true or not we cannot know. Regards, Jon

I certainly don't blame anyone for missing a discussion, since I check the boards every day, hit the Last Day link and still miss stuff. There are a lot of discussions going on. We talked about this on the Overkill of Mary Jane Kelly topic. I don't know what stolen money has to do with overkill. Summary: Petty thieves are often -- but not always -- poor. Plus the women may have hidden their money before they entertained to try to avoid being ripped off. Dan

Hello Jon, Like Dan, I miss many things when I'm browsing through the bitching and the backstabbing, er, incisive debates posted on other boards. I'll certainly look through the Mary Kelly board to see if there's anything worth stealing for my book! (Kidding, I assure you.) Thanking you Jim Leen
