Casebook Message Boards: General Discussion: Miscellaneous: A sketch of the murderer

Hi all, One of the most notable characteristics in the murders of JTR is his savagery. When we read about the nature of these crimes or when we see some of the photographs of his victims, the first thing we are thinking it is that the murderer had to be mad. Nevertheless, the facts we know about these murders clearly prove this madman was at the same time a clever, logical and calculating man. This murderer had a method to kill, always the same. We can summarize it by the following steps: A-Planning of the murder (caution, serenity and friendliness) 1.- Selection of victim 2.- Sexual proposal 3.- To lead the victim (or vice versa) to an isolated spot. B-Execution of the murder (skill, strength, speed and efficacy) 1.- To strangle 2.- To slit 3.- To mutilate 4.- To remove (sometimes) 5.- To escape without a trace. Owing to speed of the murders (except for Kelly’s murder) I have no doubts the killer didn’t have intercourse with the victims, before, during or after killing them. So, it is difficult to me to imagine a sexual reason for these murders, despite occupation of victims and genital wounds. In these murders I see the killer expressing his rage, taking revenge for something, shaking and challenging society. The murderer placates his thirst for vengeance killing and mutilating his victims. Lastly, the portrait that emerges from this murderer is that of a frustrated man, a resentful man, a clever and well-mannered man that at a moment of his life he decides to cross the line that divides the border between sanity and insanity. Best regards, Jose Carril

Jose, Killers can have sexual responses without any intercourse involved. A frustrated man or resentful man doesn't slice someone open and then play with the parts. Maybe once, out of curiosity, or to desecrate the body, but multiple times indicates there was a reason. It's likely the reason was that he got off on it, if the Ripper's psychology was anything like that of the serial killers that came later. It's also conceivable (but not as likely in my opinion) that there was an alternate goal was involved, like those who suggest some occult reason for the murders. Kinks and fetishes do not have to make sense to people with more average sexual desires. They usually don't. And the perversions of the most twisted and evil minds are the least understandable to the untrained eye. A sexual kiling, therefore, may be based upon a desire that most people would not find sexually stimulating... thank goodness! Dan
