I'm doing a psychology paper and was wondering if anyone has information on recent "copycat" ripper murders?(in the last 20 or 30 years) Thanks, Chris

Hi Chris. If by 'copycat' Ripper murders you mean crimes that were committed to emulate the Whitechapel Murders, there are many - most of which were perpetrated by individuals suffering from severe personality disorder. A good starting point for these would be the books of Colin Wilson. If, on the other hand, your question relates to sexually motivated mutilation murderers, my advice would be to read up on the cases of Peter Sutcliffe, Duane Samples, Ed Kemper, Richard Trenton Chase, and, going back a little further, Gordon Frederick Cummins, London's so-called 'Blackout Ripper.' There are many more, of course, but this should be a good starting point. Also, when I was a psychology student, I found PsychLit and similar such academic sites to be a good source for Forensic and Clinical Psychology case histories and general data. Hope this helps, Garry Wroe.

Garry, Thanks for the info, sorry if I wasn't specific enough. What I meant was, murders committed to emulate the ripper slayings. I searched the name Colin Wilson but the only thing that I found that might be close is a book of the unexplained. What I'm looking for is specific murders and cases, some kind of documented proof. If anyone has info they could contribute I would greatly appreciate it, can't seem to find any on my own. Thanks in advance. Chris

Hi Chris. You will find several examples of Ripper emulators at the beginning of Chapter Nine in Don Rumbelow's The Complete Jack the Ripper. Again, though, as with my vague recollections of other such recent cases, the individuals involved were mentally disordered and so didn't stimulate a great deal of media interest. Depending on how much time and effort you are prepared in invest in your project, you could always spend a few hours in your local true crime bookshop or even contact a newspaper crime reporter. Sorry not to have been more help. Best wishes, Garry Wroe.

Thanks for your help Garry, maybe someone eles has some info. Let me restate my question....I am writing a dissertation on "copycat crimes", with emphasis on the ripper crimes. However, I am unable to find any specific crimes that fit this category. To be specific what I am looking for are people that murdered with the MO of the ripper. Please, I beg of you all, please help me out..... I have already been turned onto Rumbelow's book (ch 9) I can't find it in any bookstore however. I need the names of the killers, victims, dates, MO etc. Thank you all very much in advance. Chris
