Portions of the proceeds from our play "Women of the Dark" were given to a local womens shelter. imagine our surprise when when there was a letter in or local paper calling it sick irony. We thought it was only fitting.

Hi, Julie: I am sorry to hear that the intent of you giving the proceeds of your play to a worthy cause such as the local womens' shelter was misconstrued by somebody writing to the local paper. I endorse your action in donating to the shelter. To honor the memory of the victims of the Whitechapel murders as you have is indeed praiseworthy and should not be a cause for criticism. Would you give us some more information about your play and where it is being produced? Best regards Chris George

Hi Chris To quote the cover letter we are sending to other theater groups , " Women of the Dark" is a play that is surrealistic in both time and place , it utilizes one set and occurs in real time . The set pieces are simple and stactic . It is simple to stage and inexpensive to produce.Jack plays the entire peise tied to his chair, Polly does not speak, Mary Kelly is a small but moving role, both represent fear. Long Liz represents what might have been, Kate is intellect and reason, Dark Annie is Jacks ego and his anger. The play has been carefully researched and the facts included are correct. The play approaches the Jack the Ripper story from the victis veiwpoint. It seeks to discover not"Who Jack is?" but rather "Why Jack is?" The discussion bridges time to examine the first reconized serial killer. The play is adult in language and content,(we use the autopsy pictures) it mantains its intensity throughout and builds to a strong climax." Woman of the Dark contains alot of historical facts for the ripperologist. Long Liz has a long moving monologue about surviving the Princess Alice shipwreck. We never tell the audience that this is a false memory. Did Liz start to belive it herself? For more info post messages on the board we would be happy to send some dialogue to anyone interested. Jay/Judy Eklond of Playtrippers

Hi, Jay and Judy: It sounds as if your play provides an unusual approach to the crimes. I wish you the best with it. Chris
