Casebook Message Boards: General Discussion: Miscellaneous: On The Ripper Needing To Be Killed/Caught.....WHY ?
Author: Howard Brown Saturday, 22 June 2002 - 04:14 pm | |
Dear Friends: As someone who somewhat leans towards Mr.Evans' belief that Dr.Tumblety was the Ripper,I frequently hear that it would be highly improbable that someone with the ferocity of JtR would have to be killed/locked up, in order for a cessation to this bestiality.....To all of you whom may think otherwise,in deference to more enlightened men and women,I offer this rebuttal..The Green River Killer, who according to DNA testing,is a man named Gary Ridgeway( well,at least several of the crimes..)DID cease for YEARS in his activities. He had found marital bliss and was a happy dude. His neighbors, however, found him a little creepy. He would go door-to-door,ranting about hookers and johns leaving used condoms out in the open. Here is an example of a killer, who committed TEN TIMES the amount of murders JtR performed...living a non-descript life....still with the SAME anger mechanism that kick started his prior actions....Like Tumblety, someone who was detained and let go..without rambling on,there are other similarities....In further support of Mr.Evans' belief, and in genuflection to Mr.Fido,a great detail historian, whom I would give my cojones to be remotely close to,as a historian ,there are other instances of homosexuals performing against heterosexuals and vice-versa....Ridgeway was able to wheedle his way out of suspicion and he may have not been as erudite as Dr.T was......WHAT DO YOU FOLKS THINK?????

Hey Howard: I know nothing about who actually was/might be JtR, but I would say that the old saw about serial killers who go uncaught are either dead or in jail struck me as whistling in the dark. One warning: Ridgeway was caught, correct? Why? What about the killers who remain uncaught? The unknown is, well, unknown. Ridgeway may debunk one hypothesis -- or its status as some unwritten "law" -- but beware of setting up another...for instance, killers find true love and marital bliss. Yaz

Hello Howard. I'm sure you are aware of the story of the American Doctor, who, several months prior to the start of the Whitechapel murders, had made enquiries to at least two top medical establishments with the intent to procure specimens of uterii. Was this Tumblety? What we need is something in 1888 in England to connect Tumblety with an interest in surgical medical procedures. (he was basically a herbalist) We know he was in England, we do not know where or why. The most frequent miss-stated, overstated, emphasis on Tumblety's interests is his 'collection of uterii'. The actual story appears to be dated to the 1860's, 20 years before the time we are concerned with and it was not a collection of uterii but a collection, or display of organs, some of which were uterii. Now, knowing of Tumblety's desire to pose as a Doctor it is perfectly acceptable for him to have a collection of body parts in sealed glass containers, in a display case. Tumblety did not have a 'collection of uterii' per-se, it is a case of misplaced emphasis. If Tumblety is connected with this case then we need something nearer to 1888, in England, to focus on. IF,...Tumblety was the 'American Doctor' mentioned above, then I suspect the police wanted to speak to him because of what he knew, not because of what he did. Tumblety's involvement, if any, is still very much an open case. regards, Jon
