Casebook Message Boards: General Discussion: Research Issues / Philosophy: A Jack in1888 - A Jack in 2001/ What would the differences be and would the motives be different ?
Author: Triston Marc Bunker Friday, 09 March 2001 - 05:13 pm
To all, As we know there is a killer loose in London today killing prostitutes (at least we know his first two were, my heart felt sadness go to the families right now and I've probably hit upon a taboo subject just by mentioning it). It has lead me to think if the original murders had happened in this year. I think we can safely say that this low-life would be caught. All I ask is, would his motives have been the same ? We can safely say (relatively anyhow) that conditions and frame of mind inspired by the Victorian period of the time had alot to say in the matter. 21st Century ? What is everyones thoughts on this ? Tris: I agree he would be caught. The question of motive is at this juncture, almost impossible to answer as Jack was never caught so we don't know what his motives were. We only have speculation Some good some really bad but none of it admissible in court and none of it accurate until such time as we have enough evidence as to who JtR was. Kindest Reguards, Neil

Dear Tris, But if...if, he knew the way they 'think', and who 'they' were, and how they 'worked', and if he did not 'exist'...why he/she could paint the town red.Indeed, its possible it has already happened and we know not as yet! Think of Rosemary - a week without her treatment and a handful of speed! "Rosie d'Ripper:the testicles nipper. Our only hope against such an eventuality lies in tranny cops draped in Garlic. Cheerio A Sorry Me!

Tris and Rosemary: I'd be curious to know if they have caught this latter day ripper yet. We don't get much British crimes news here in the U.S. I hope they have caught him or if not that he will be brought to ground quickly. As a side note, I came across Francis Tumblety on the Casebook suspects section. He's buried in Rochester New York approximately 75 miles from where I am (Syracuse, NY). I think I understand your tack on your idea Tris and I think mine for the novel will be different.(No need for pistols at dawn and all that, the police constables have far too much to worry about these days LOL) I believe he is the most viable suspect I've seen to date and prbably will be until some one actually find a signed confession with an authenticated identity. (Not likely) Have a great weekend. Kindest reguards, Neil

Dear Tris and Neil..... CAUGHT??? How about the I-5 Killer, the Green River Killer, and the Zodiac....for starters??? Just a thought....... Regards, Judy

The Zodiac Killer could be worthy of a sight of his own. He might actually still be out there someplace but I rather think he's dead or incarcerated for something else. He might be the enfeebled old duffer next to you on the bus. Rosemary, I do hope you haven't taken up a life of crime. We'd miss your posts here. Kindest reguards, Neil

Dear Neil, How very kind of you to think of poor old Rosey:-( but I assure you my absence is only in the service of the Casebook. I am drumming up future RIPS from other...strange and bizarre corners of this extraordinary dimension that only Knights Templars on acid could devise...the Internet! As for poor old Rosey :-( she is retired from a life of crime (em..I think)and all she seeks is her redemption...and relax in the rewards of her wicked, wicked past. By christ it was worth it! Ask Caroline:-)) Martin, Who is this jumped-up character known as "One-Fingers Horton"? Baffled. As ever, Rosey O'Ryan:-)

Author: Martin Fido Thursday, 03 May 2001 - 05:20 pm
Rosey, Whence the finger? Are you in fact asking about Horton the Elephant, the first and finest creation of Dr Seuss? Martin

Dear Martin, I did say I would see you all in the next decade...damn it. Who the hell is Dr Suess? Donna tella ma...he is some heavenly moderator with a great big hammer...and a deep dark secret.I know the type. Elephant-fixation...quite common among the Anglo-Saxons in the White Waste-Lands. Horton is an imposter! Rosey :-)

Have I confused the great weaver of verbal labyrinths, Ms O'Ryan? Or is she really unfamiliar with the creator of the sneetches (star-bellied or otherwise) and the fox in socks and, most famously, the cat in the hat? Would she truly not recognise the famous opening lines, 'Cried Maisy, a lazy bird, sitting her eggs, "I'm tired and I'm bored and I've kinks in my legs!" ' as familiar to most on these boards as, apparently, is I am the shadow of the waxwing, slain By the false azure in the window-pane to several self-declared enthusiasts. Martin F for Foxy

Dear Neil, Rosemary and Martin, I thought I'd killed this subject heading with it's heading alone. Not being a whinger may I suggest that you use this little corner of "Ripperdom" for any point of discussion you wish to choose. May I ask a question though ? Whatever the talk can I join in too ? (:-)) Tris Ps, Martin, now I know you don't drink pints (Paul said jokingly in the past he'd drink it for you) and your age, may I say that if ever your in my neck of the woods let me buy you an Ovaltine.

Author: Martin Fido Friday, 04 May 2001 - 02:52 pm
Ovaltine? YUK!!! Martin
| |
Author: Triston Marc Bunker Friday, 04 May 2001 - 04:17 pm
Martin, I love Ovaltine, what do you mean yuk ? I lovingly see you as an Ovalteeny. Well, if you put it that much how about a cocoa, horlicks, or even a steaming mug of Bovril ? Even though I'm taking the mick out of you, good friend, I have a shamed secret. Yep, at the tender age of 31 I've discovered that I'm a Dean Martin fan. And the way I punish my kidney's and liver I can presume I'll die the same way. So, what I'm saying is thus :- I'm as mentally old as you are physically, trying to feel as young as I should be. So for a real drink, I'll meet you in the middle for a JD and coke with ice. Tris

Hi, Tristan - I also, enjoy Dean Martin. So, I want to set the record straight - the drinking was all an act; he died from acute respiratory failure. Nothing alcohol related. I'm now off to catch-up on the hundreds of posts I've missed.

Dear Tris, Firstly, our modern Jolly Japester, "Jack", will be typing into this very site :-) What do you think Martin? Rosey :-)
| |
Author: Rosemary O'Ryan Wednesday, 09 May 2001 - 05:29 am
Dear Tris, Motive? In an on-going trial, the Prosecution admit that the motive for a notorious murder...is unknown! As you now see, some motives are unknown and... unknowable...unless the murderer is both his own psychoanalyst and amanuensis. Rosey :-)

with the forensics we have today, we will most likely catch the new killer. its just hard to do this sort of thing without ANYONE noticing... Neil, i'm getting satellite in a few days, and it includes the BBC (or at least BBCNews) so i might be able to catch the news...only if it's a feed, then i might have to get up in the middle of the night for it. but that's all right, lol. This is the first I've heard of the recent murders? Could someone please e-mail me the particulars? My e-mail address is under my profile. Also, it would be very hard to say what the Ripper's motives were, seeing as most all suspects had different ones. All we really know is he had a hatred for whores. If Jack the Ripper lived now, he would, and I stress this word, PROBABLY be caught. But if someone knew how to elude the authorites of those times, then whose to say that a modern day Ripper wouldn't know how to elude today's? Even if this new killer is thinking of starting some copy cat killings,it's probably just some freak who heard about the new movie, or even if just some fanatic, I doubt he has the brains the Ripper did. Anyway, yes, please e-mail me and let me know the details.

This message board is an answer to my prayers..you see everyone, I am planning on writing a book on a modern day JTR and if anyone has any comments or suggestions to what I should put in my book (such as where the murders should take place [I was thinking maybe New York City?] and who should be a target of JTR etc, etc...) email me at: angel_1_28@hotmail.com. If I choose to use your comments, I will gladly mention your name in the acknowledgements (by permission of course!). Thank you to whoever responds! Nicole
