Laxative promo; take one. Constipation giving you that bloated feeling? Well, one teaspoon of Ryder's in your morning coffee will make you one of Ryder's Regulars. Why not pick up a box today. :-) Sorry Caz, I couldn't help myself.

That's ok Joseph. Mix the formula with Morse code and you get a ... and a very quick dash. ;-) (Hope you made it in time) Love, Caz

Assuming that I've given out my theory (which I haven't done yet), a male supporter of mine would be a Radkaroo. A female supporter would be a Radkarette. David

Hi All, IMHO, Diana's is the best suggestion to date. We can't be the "Baker Street Irregulars", that one is taken and geographically incorrect besides. "Dorset Street" correctly identifies our area of interest while still retaining the Holmesian tone, and "Irregulars" sounds ever so much nicer that "Nutcasebook", wouldn't you say, Caz? :-) Cheers, Jim

Author: Caroline Anne Morris Tuesday, 09 January 2001 - 04:03 am
I have to agree with you, Jim. Diana's Dorset Street Irregulars sums us all up nicely - a more irregular bunch of armchair tecs was probably never gathered together in one place. I do think sometimes, though, we could all do with a jolly good dose of Joseph's 'Ryder's' every morning, so we are not quite so irregular. ;-) Love, Caz DDSI duly reporting for duty

I'm wondering if we ever come up with something really good if it could be incorporated into the menu over to the left. Of course the message boards would still have to be called message boards so newcomers would be able to find their way around, but it could be thus: Dorset Street Irregulars (Message Boards).

I am not sure, but I would think in order to fit all of it in, the letters would have to be so tiny that no one could read it anyway?

Hi everyone. Excellent thread you started, Diana. I like several of the names above for various reasons--some are quite creative and/or cute. But what do we want this nickname to accomplish? Do we want silly, pompous ... or definitive? To me the best would: 1) Incorporate kudos to Stephen Ryder and perhaps Johnno (he seems publicity shy sometimes). 2) Sound fun (without being lewd or silly). 3) Be easily understood by new posters and "outsiders." I'm visualizing Dave Yost, CM, Chris George or whoever at the 2002 Casebook Productions JtR Conference--spending 30 minutes trying to explain our nickname to a reporter. RIGHT NOW the NOMINEES ARE: (In alphabetical order.) Blood-Clotters The Casebook Jacks Cut & Slash Casuals Delbast's Violinists Disbelievers Dorset Street Irregulars East-End Inquirers The Embittered Children Eternal Wonderers The Glorious 88'ers Happy Jacks Jackoffs Jackologists Jax or Jacks The Juwesh Auxilliary Kosminski's Juwesh Auxilliary Kosminski's Wankers The Leather Apron Brigade McNaghten's Necrophilliacs Miller's Court Jesters Queens Own Re-Fusiliers Radkaroo and Radkarette RIPPERBYTES or RIPPER-BYTES RipperReaders Roaring Rippers Ryder's Regulars Seekers after Truth Whitechapel Wanderers or Wonderers The Whitechaplian Pifflicants AFTER removing the CRUDE or LEWD we have: The Casebook Jacks Delbast's Violinists Disbelievers Dorset Street Irregulars East-End Inquirers The Embittered Children Eternal Wonderers The Glorious 88'ers Happy Jacks Jackologists Jax or Jacks The Juwesh Auxilliary Kosminski's Juwesh Auxilliary The Leather Apron Brigade Miller's Court Jesters Queens Own Re-Fusiliers Radkaroo and Radkarette RIPPERBYTES or RIPPER-BYTES RipperReaders Roaring Rippers Ryder's Regulars Seekers after Truth Whitechapel Wanderers or Wonderers The Whitechaplian Pifflicants *THEN taking out those TOO SPECIFIC to ONE AREA OF THE CASE--we have: The Casebook Jacks Delbast's Violinists Disbelievers The Embittered Children Eternal Wonderers Happy Jacks Jackologists Jax or Jacks Kosminski's Juwesh Auxilliary The Leather Apron Brigade Queens Own Re-Fusiliers Radkaroo and Radkarette RIPPERBYTES or RIPPER-BYTES RipperReaders Roaring Rippers Ryder's Regulars Seekers after Truth (*DUE to EDDOWES being killed inside the City of London AND the possibility JtR killed beyond THE AUTUMN OF TERROR--WE even had to remove: East-End Inquirers AND The Glorious88'ers) NOW removing the ones focusing on ONE SUSPECT OR ONE RESEARCHER: (I believe we should make an exception and keep Stephen Ryder's name in ... without him & Johnno most of us wouldn't be acquainted with each other or have learned so much about the case.) The Casebook Jacks Delbast's Violinists Disbelievers The Embittered Children Eternal Wonderers Happy Jacks Jackologists Jax or Jacks Queens Own Re-Fusiliers RIPPERBYTES or RIPPER-BYTES RipperReaders Roaring Rippers Ryder's Regulars Seekers after Truth *THEN taking out those TOO GENERAL or TOO OBSCURE to be IDENTIFIED WITH JtR--We're left with: The Casebook Jacks Happy Jack Jackologists Jax or Jacks RIPPERBYTES or RIPPER-BYTES RipperReaders Roaring Rippers (*To attract new posters we even have to lose: Ryder's Regulars) Each name on the "final" list above lacks one or more characteristics which I suggested. I think if we all focus on the elements we need in this nickname--Together we can brainstorm a small list of names to vote on. SPRY: Would you have the time to set up a voting area for nicknames? To all who made it to the bottom of this long post--thanks for your patience. Ashling

How's about 'JackaBytes' The New Modem Army?
| |
Author: Steve Haddon Saturday, 13 January 2001 - 09:41 am
I find the names with "Jack" in them a bit too obvious and cheesy. I'd suggest a classy sort of name that has Sherlock-Holmes tinges to it. I like "Dorset Street Irregulars", but I would also suggest "The (International) Whitechapel Detectives". Remember, if the name sounds a bit too "cheeky" (e.g. Roaring Rippers) you're going to put off people who might think you don't take the subject seriously. Just my thoughts Steve

Author: LeatherApron Saturday, 13 January 2001 - 12:05 pm
Ashling, I beg your pardon. I didn't know this was a SERIOUS exercise! How about Abberline's Amateurs? The International Whitechapel Detectives is pretty good, maybe Sleuths would be better or Investigators? Or the Whitechapel Investigation Committee? Is there a time limit? Leanne, Jackologists was thrown out by a visitor to the chat room way back when, so I can't take credit for it. Regards, Jack

Gee guys, I'm not sure which is sadder, that you wrote all this or that I just sat here and read it all. Julie John appreciates that his suggestion went from fourth last to sixth first.

G'day Jack, Yeah, but where is that anonymous visitor now? You stored 'Jackologists' into your long-term memory bank and brought the name to the Casebooks attention, so therefore the credit is yours! I didn't know there was a 1st prize in this competition anyway! LEANNE!

Author: David M. Radka Monday, 15 January 2001 - 09:11 pm
All, I'd like to reiterate what I consider my best suggestion. It is the most satisfying of all the names suggested: The Manual Delbast Violinists Humor, originality, pathos, irony, culture, exclusivity, eros, everything can be found in this name for our intimate circle. It's like a good single-malt Scotch Whiskey, such as Glenlivet (I'm having one right now;) a panoply of rich flavors and aftertastes. Everything Ripperology is is summed-up and savored here. Please consider it seriously. David
