I don't know whether this has been raised before, for give me if it has (I have looked honest!). If this has been the subject of previous discussion, will some kind poster please direct me to the appropriate thread. If not, here goes, my first initiated thread: I have recently been pursuing the possible Fenian dimension of the Whitechapel murders. In re-reading "Fenian Fire" by Christy Campbell I came across a footnote which I had previously overlooked. On page 156 of the hardback 1st edition, Campbell notes that a man called JOHN FLEMING was "atomised" in a bungled bombing attempt on london Bridge in December 1884. Now MJK was said to have associated with a man called JOSEPH Fleming. John and Joseph are not impossible names for two brothers. Has anyone previously made this connection and followed this up? If it is true that MJK was Irish by birth and had Irish links (so much about her is a mystery) then a demonstrable link to Fenians would be more than interesting. It might explain a lot. At this stage I am jumpng to no conclusions and drawing no inferences. I'd just be grateful for advice on whether this is an old trail - long dead, or a new one with intriguing possibilities? All responses appreciated. Thanks in anticipation, Phil |

Natalie - I too am grateful for Chris's post. However, I have done no more research (neither time nor opportunity, alas!) but I remain interested in the potential connections. Phil |

Thanks again Chris for going to this trouble to help.It doesnt tell us much about the perpetrators unfortunately but maybe in time something more will turn up.I dont know how the name John Fleming was arrived at by the author of the book and in connection with the bombings,as stated by Phil at the top of this thread----must have got the name from somewhere! Best Wishes Natalie |
