New York, Dec. 21.
Emil Totterman alias Carl Nielsen, 35 years old, was arrested this afternoon by Detective Sergeants Cronin and Hennessy,
charged with the murder of Sarah Martin in Kelley's hotel on Water street. When confronted by Mrs. Kelley, wife of the
proprietor of the hotel, the man was positively identified by her as the one who went to a room with the Martin woman
Satyrday night. Totterman was arrested in a sailors' boarding house, known as the Sailors' Union, at No. 37 South street. The
murder of the Martin woman was like that of the Whitechapel murders. The body was frightfully mutilated. Some people believe
Totterman is the Jack the Ripper who was never caught.
