New York, April 29.
Inspector Byrnes this morning made public a statement to the effect that the man known as "Frenchy No. 1" has been ascertained to have slept in the East River hotel on the night of the murder. The murdered woman, Carrie Brown, occupied Room 31, while "Frenchy" slept in 33. On the evening of the murder Carrie Brown was seen going into the hotel in company with a strange man. This man left the place before midnight. It is believed Frenchy No. 1 then went to carrie Brown's room; that they quarreled and that the result was the murder of the woman.
