An estimate of the produce of the hop crop for each county in which it is grown has been issued by the Agricultural Department. The total produce of 58,490 acres is put down at 281,291 cwt., which is at the rate of 4·81 cwt. Per acre. There are great differences in the yields credited to the several counties. Thus the average for Sussex is 6·91 cwt. Per acre; Kent coming next, with 4·63 cwt. ; then Hereford with 4·54 cwt., Hants with 4·29 cwt., Worcester with 3·89 cwt., and Surry with 3·49 cwt. In two or three counties growing only a few acres the produce is estimated at less than 3 cwt.
