Another Woman Murdered in Whitechapel London
London, July 17.
Apparently there is to be another series of Whitechapel horrors. At 1.30 o'clock this
morning a woman was found in the last gasps in Castle alley, Whitechapel district. Her
throat was cut and her stomach frightfully slashed. There is every indication that "Jack
the Ripper" is at work once more. The unfortunate woman who was an outcast, died in a few
moments. No trace of the murderer has been found. The woman's name is unknown here. The
cry begins again, and Whitechapel will be invaded by an army of curious people and
patrolled by hundreds of police who cannot see, hear or think.
Late this evening it was learned that the woman was about 45 years old, and was known as Kelly to Mrs. Smith, keeper of the baths in Castle alley. The body was found near a lamp post, under the glare of the light. Carts of many descriptions were stacked on both sides just where the murder occurred, and there was room for a man ro stand out of sight. The theory of the police is that the man and woman entered Castle alley from Petticoat lane and as they were passing an unoccupied building he thrust the knife into her neck below the right ear. The murderer then turned her over and inflicted frighful gashes on her stomach. The police, as usual, are reticent, and when asked say they know nothing. One report is that the man has been arrested. Another report is that he answers to the description of "Jack the Ripper." The police refuse to deny or confirm the reports.
