Sir - I beg to acknowledge further subscriptions amounting to £122 15s, making a total of £174, of which £67 5s. has been distributed in food and firing. At our Council meeting yesterday it was resolved to form a Relief Fund, embracing the whole of the borough. We have, therefore, handed the balance - £106 15s. - over to his Worship the Mayor, to whom all future subscriptions should be sent. Again permit me, in the name of the sufferers in Victoria Docks, to very sincerely thank those friends who have so promptly and ably helped us.
I am, Sir, your obedient servant,
H. Phillips.
West Ham, August 8.
Sir - Will you kindly allow me to express my gratitude to your many readers for the kindness and sympathy which have been shown to my poor people, who have suffered through the storms and floods?
I have replied by letter to all who were good enough to send their address.
I regret to say we have already some cases of sickness.
I am, Sir, your obedient servant.
