Are you off your trolley, Philip? Blofeld's cat was notorious for his pathological lies. Catty Pornwell put the pigeon among the cats by ignoring this lying feline and trying to prove that Diddles was castrated well before August 1888, and left without paying the vet's fees. Before the days of lying by the fire licking his absent nuts, the suspected feline felon had allegedly scratched patterns in the wallpaper depicting scenes of catty depravity. But it turns out that Diddles was actually on holiday, convalescing in Gay Purris (and not committing murders in the Rue Mog) until early November, when he returned home to Mrs Prater, licking his wounds but eager to hear the latest tittle-tattle about the recent alley-cat murders. Everything hotter than 68 F (20 C) is terrible and more or less unbearable, as far as I am concerned. I belong to those very few and unfortunate individuals who has some kind of steam boiler inside the body at all times, regardless of season and temperature. I am always too warm, am always sweating and I am never ever cold. I haven't been freezing since the early seventies. Those who do not like cold, might find such a condition great, but I tell you it is a nightmare and sometimes it nearly makes you kill yourself. When everybody else feels a temperature outdoors or indoors of 77 F, I feel 95. And no matter what I wear (or how little) nothing seems to be able to cool me down. If I could, I would live inside a refridgerator. All the best G. Andersson, author/crime historian Sweden The Swedes are the men That Will not be Blamed for Nothing

Hi Glenn, I Absolutely agree with you, i find heat oppressive, you cant sleep, one finds it hard to put clothes on without feeling that horrible clinging feeling, how can anyone call temperatures in the nineties great, to sit in ones garden and feel beads of sweat trickle down your back i certainly do not call pleasant, i have just returned from our traditional fathers day luncheon , and a hot meal followed by a even hotter car has left me bad tempered and irritable. Still this ice cold beer is having effect. Richard. |

I too hate the heat. And as for lying all day on a hot beach - what's the point of that? What are people learning when they do that? Fancy travelling hours to get to a place - and then doze off on a beach! It would be cheaper to drink two bottles of Scotch and collapse on your garden lawn. Robert |

Erm... what has all this got to do with Diddles? Shouldn't this be on Pub Talk? I would like to validate this posting by saying that Mr Diddles found the summer of 1888 too hot and thus shaved off his fur with a long thin-bladed razor-sharp knife and had a distinctly 'foreign' appearance for some weeks afterwards. Glenn - too hot? That moustache is the cause. You know it. PHILIP PS : Thanks, Mags, but I have just had one of the worst Ripper tours of my life. There were 2 complaints about the one I did last Wednesday as I make a rude joke at the end - first time in 200 tours anyone moaned about it, though I do clearly state before the tour sets out that it is adult and bad taste and tonight I had my biggest group on the coach ever - nearly 50 - 8 of them sitting right up the front next to me were Japanese women who didn't speak a word of English so made up for it by speaking loud Japanese to each other throughout the tour when I was trying to narrate on the mic. I had a lady on the group with a walking disability which made me wait about 3 minutes when we got to every location before I could start and we were 20 minutes late in getting there in the first place because... THE DRIVER HAD NEVER DRIVEN A TOUR IN HIS LIFE AND HAD NEVER DRIVEN IN LONDON, PERIOD!!! I cannot tell you how awful it was. He drove miles off track and I had to stop all narration and get out a London A-Z Street Map and direct him all the way around at the expense of the customers. We finished an hour late and as a result I had done double the work... and got less than half the tips I would usually get because it was such a cockerel-up!!! NIGHTMARE!!! Poor Philip! What a total nightmare eh!I think it must be dreadful if you cant crack a joke on these tours but I suppose someone hearing about the ripper for more or less the first time might be forgiven for finding it a bit unfunny! Not that I myself find any of it funny, to be honest, but you have to lighten up from time to time I would think on these tours. After all someone conducting such a tour with a big po face revealing all the alarming stuff to an unknown group of people etc, could scare the wits out of someone a bit impressionable! hope you feel better soon,Phil, and as my dear old Nan used to say "take no notice-just be polished with them". Hi Nats. The rude joke is nothing to do with JTR. It is made at the end. I go through the FBI profiling and make a joke out of how many of their ostensible facets fit myself, and then say that in my opinion JTR committed the murders as he had a small... um... appendage. Unlike myself. I then go on to claim that it has been suggested it should be used as a bridge over the Thames. Someone took extreme offence at that. It takes all sorts, don't it? I do refer to Victorian Prostitutes in derogatory and humerous ways, but that is George speaking. I don't at any point mock the victims. That would not be good. DIDDLES. Had to say that to keep it on thread! Glenn : I know nowt of moustaches except for the fact you have one and I don't. Dr Tumbelty. PHILIP Tour guides do it loudly in front of a crowd!

It is awful humid and sweaty weather here today -- the air is so damp and oppressive that I can hardly breath. Look at Helge's enclosed picture above -- that is not Diddles, it's me. Hutch, I may have a moustache but at least I don't dress up in cabbage costumes -- or in Tumblety's case, fake military uniforms. All the best G. I remember a Chat Room conversation when you ALL donned fruit and veg costumes just so I didn't feel alienated. Including Glenn. I've just fired off a huge long e-mail to my Ripper employers expressing my disapproval of the last week's work for them (3 major things in 6 days). I tell you - if I could do this job for anyone else I would tell them where to stick it tomorrow! Guess I will have to wait until Don Rumbelow packs his steps away for the last time and then stroll into the London Walking Tours company... Yes, Helge's cat above is indeed similar to Glenn. I can definitely see it. I found a baby photo last week in a newspaper that looked just like Rob Clack! I was going to post it but thought it would be unfair on Rob. Maybe a new thread?
