Hi again everyone! Welcome to the new permanent thread. Any cat artwork to support my contention that Mr Diddles was Jack the Ripper can now be posted here where it shall remain permanently on Casebook. The best and weirdest will be culled - with your permission - for a strictly limited edition book which will be sold at the Brighton Conference with all profits going to Casebook. If you are new to this new angle on the identity of Jack The Ripper, it is now too difficult to explain. Just take my word for it that Elizabeth Prater's cat, Mr Diddles, was Jack The Ripper and overwhelming evidence has been provided by Casebook contributers to prove it. Suzi, Lyn, Glenn, Jenni, Nats, Diana, Rob C, Rob L, anyone else.... Here we go! PHILIP (The Katmeister) Tour guides do it loudly in front of a crowd!

Suzi, Hutch et. al. I also think Barnett, Klosowski and Maybrick are wonderful. It is amazing how much they look like the original portraits, in spite being turned into cats. I am totally amazed that one can do this transformation and make it work. Caricature is said to be among the most difficult forms of art, so I'll take my hat off for anyone who can do this sort of thing. And one of those that really cracks me up totally, is Ostrog! Hahaha... I just love that one. I can't wait for those T-shirts. I believe they would REALLY be succesful on the Ripper walks and on the Conferences (both in England and the US). This is my favourite by miles. Suzi, is there any chance of getting a better photo of this one? The images where you have a bit of shadow on them are the ones that are difficult to clean up (though if the shadow is total that's not too bad).

If I might deliver some (hopefully) professional opinion about this... I know that it is no point in doing so for this site, since the technical circumstances here are limited (handling only jpeg pictures of a certain size etc.), but if you are going to create original files suitable for printing on paper or other media (like clothes), the best thing to do is to rescan them as large-size high resolution pics in TIFF format (not jpeg)... or even better (regarding the line drawings) in EPS format (since this don't use pixels and you therefore don't get tagged images). Trying to blow up already scanned and small-size jpeg pictures is useless for printing, since it makes the pictures tagged (as can be seen on the Kosminski picture) and in some cases even blurry. I might come out as a besserwisser and real bugger here, and you might know this already, but a pointer just the same. Printing needs totally different requirements from publishing on the web. Now, that is for the line drawings. For grayscales, they have to be rescanned as high resolution and large sized TIFF pics. Jpeg is only meant to be used on the web. In this way you will get the best results. You can't display those here, of course (too heavy), but if you are going to print them... So it takes rescanning of the originals in a larger size and resolution and converting to EPS (if possible, to avoid all tagged distortion).) or TIFF format (regarding the gray scales) Suzi, Incredibly funny cover. Hi Suzi, "I dont pretend to understand all the technical stuff here but think the sketches would be better done by photo silk screen directly!" Quite possible (am a bit dusty on that). But you don't have to do that sort of thing today. By creating a scanned computer file of the pic, you can get a completely different kind of freedom in manipulating the result. You certainly can't use jpeg pics as originals for print, at least. They are only meant for the web. Aha, I though that blue background was intentional. Kinda neat, though... All the best G. Hi folks. I am feeling quite ill today so not really up to posting much - there is so much to do so I will have to do it tomorrow (my hay fever / dust allergy is playing up). Plenty to say and things (and thanks to Suzi). If I feel better later I will try to work it all out, but lieing flat on my back is the only thing that keeps my sinuses clear. Glenn - a 'mog' is short for 'moggy', which is an English affectionate slang term for a cat. A moggy is usually referring to the sort of cat that will be cuddly and friendly but not a pedigree - I think it might derive from 'mongrel' for cross-breeds (though mongrel is used for dogs, moggy is only used for cats). Hi, I do not wish to spoil any ones party here, but [ my age proberly is to blame] I find the whole conceipt of Diddles T shirts, and a book of silly captions a absolute farce. The convention although meant to be enjoyable, is also a serious event to Ripperology. For your information Poor Diddles was simply a cat belonging To Mrs Prater, who lived over Kellys room. And in my humble opinion to make this whole issue a joke in such a massive fashion is giving our site a massive negative to those who follow these boards. I shall proberly get shot to pieces over my opinion, but I am a person who speaks my mind , even if a lot of people will consider me a old fuddy duddy. Regards Richard. |

Hi Richard, I can't blame you for having those feelings, actually. The same thoughts have crossed my mind as well. But then again, how much fun is one allowed to have in a context like this. Isn't the subject serious enough as it is? I mean there is a reason for why many police officers have a very crass and very morbid sense of humour, that would make most of us blush and shake our heads (I know several), not to mention the humour of those who work on a morgue. And can you really blame them? Call it a way to handle or keep some distance to the gruesome facts, in order to be able to face it every day. I believe that if humour (no matter how gruesome) didn't exist on this site, I couldn't stand being here. No way. Sometimes these things are necessary to treat as a joke in order to keep a friendly atmosphere and to make the violent context bearable for the human mind. That does not mean that one doesen't feel for the victims -- and I am myself a cat lover (everyone who hurts a cat goes to the top of my death list). Then, of course, there is a question of where to draw the limit. I personally have no problem in laughing at the lovely silliness displayed above and enjoy it. Does this mean that it's also a suitable element in connection with the Ripper walks or the Convention? I have no idea. I'm afraid I can't answer that. All the best G. Hi Glenn, Thanks for that response, at least the first shell has not been loaded in the breech, my point is only that to involve a cat in sillyness, and i do appreciate its only that, can be looked upon as a sort of insult to the amount of research and dedication achieved by many past authors and keen enthusiasts such as ourselves over the years. my main objective is to disfigure actual people , and replace them [ actual past human souls] as a cat. I Appreciate humour like anyone, but to take the mickey out of actual people is to my mind low. Also to disfigure a certain book face, written by a man that earns my respect, i consider disrespectful, and unless the gentleman concerned has a great sense of humour, he may well see it as a insult to the amount of work he put into the publication. Hi Richard, Well, as I said, if it's suitable or not in the context of this site, a Convention or other stuff I can't say -- I leave that up to others. But besides that I really think, in my personal opinion, that you're over-reacting. One must be able to lighten up in order to deal with the stuff regarding this case. It is only a healthy reaction. I was converted into a cat myself and I found that really amusing. I really can't see the insults in those things displayed above; that goes beyond me. Just my point of view. All the best G. Hi Richard I too understand your feelings. However, as Glenn has said, a spot of humour helps to lighten the atmosphere. Moreover, the drawings are on one specific thread, so no one is forced to look at them if they don't want to. And they are but a small part of the site - most of what's posted concerns either research or discussion. I believe it was Stephen himself who gave permission for these drawings to be placed on an archived thread, rather than a pub thread. If the intention was to make money out of these drawings, while using the Casebook as a springboard, then it would have been a bit tacky ; but all profits go to the Casebook. I think on a site as big as this there will be things that not everyone likes or is interested in, but that's unavoidable. Robert |

Hi Glenn, I Have no objection to amusement, infact i find lots of things amusing on this site,[ i am sure [in my case a 17stone cat would look hilarious] My point was simply to disface a spitalfields picture of similar date, and place a actual human being as a cat, when that person proberly had to endure a wretched life, is just time wasting and insulting. I appreciate there are two sections to these boards the attempted serious side, and the pub/semi serious side, but my objection is any body tuning into these boards who are fundamently intrested in the case of Jack' find themselves seeing pictures of a cat, and disfigurements of Book covers, surely this is against all the principals of a true crime site, Regards Richard. |

Hi. Dont get me wrong guys, i realized that all profits go to the casebook, and i could never argue with that, it simply was that amount of sillyness [ only that] that made me aware that we were making a mockery out of a very serious subject. All this attitude that is simply a way of lightening the horrific nature of these crimes, does not ring true with me,we are all extremely aware that these murders were gruesome, that is and the fact that they occured in the victorian age Gas lamps, to tell the truth we are all obsessed with these murders, and the gory bits, and the majority of us , if not all are of age to grasp the subject without having nightmares. Richard. |
